Fitzmas Dud...
"I can tell you, the substantial bulk of the work in this investigation is concluded."

I feel as though a lump of coal was left in my Fitzmas stocking. I am greatly disappointed that Rove and Cheney have escaped again. It will be the same old politics as usual. These chumps are evil and this country will suffer for years to come because of them.

I grieve for my county.

7. exactly.

There are only so many times people can testify. Getting the ducks in a row for indictments is something completely different.

3. Don't, as painful as it is turn the TV on...
The questions being asked aren't pretty. The American people are lazy and don't pay attention, but they are also cynical and won't buy the WH's story. Not the majority of them. Watch the poll numbers go even lower. '06 and '08 will tell all.

He said pretty much the same thing a year ago while waiting out the reporters' testimony.

It's not over yet.

8. I agree that this investigation is nearly concluded.
The big question is whether other investigations will be opened up as a result.

17. I keep thinking this too!
Who's to say either Fitz or some OTHER investigator/prosecutor won't be picking up the ball at this point and pursuing the matter(s)?

In a way, it seems it might be better that way, since the investigation into the CIA Leak re the Valerie Plame outing might always be seen as somewhat apart from the central issue of the conspiracy of LIES of the Bush administration in order to take the country to war in Iraq. Why not go directly to the meat of that conspiracy to deceive all of us about WMD's in Iraq and then track down all those threads and the guilty parties involved?

Makes a lot of sense to me....

Edited on Fri Oct-28-05 05:42 PM by sub.theory
That everyone also expected KKKarl Rove to be indicted as well. I have no more faith in "predictions" or "expectations". KKKarl got away with teason. There's just no spinning it. These neocons now know they can do ANYTHING they want. They just got away with TREASON. Our country is doomed.

I'll bet Rove is sweating like a pig. Same for Big Time, Bolton, Fleischer and Hadley. Maybe even Miller.

11. I'm delighted
today was a great day and went even better then I expected.

Keep in mind the investigation is still on going. There will be more indictments in this case and a couple of other investigations that are on the burners at the moment.

Team Bush is done.

12. All that's left is a little clean up AND more indictments
Rove is still dangling.

Fitz is not finished with indictments. He clearly signalled that today. The investigation is almost done, but I clearly think he's after conspiracy charges. That might sweep up several more people, including possibly Crashcart. Additionally, it would mean more leverage against Libby, who is in bad shape right now and would clearly be charged with conspiracy if Fitz goes that route.

15. No way - look at this quote:
QUESTION: What can you say about what you're still working on then?

FITZGERALD: I can't. I don't mean that fliply, but the grand jury doesn't give an announcement about what they're doing, what they're looking at, unless they charge an indictment.FITZGERALD: I can tell you that no one wants this thing to be over as quickly as I do, as quickly as Mr. Eckenrode does. I'd like to wake up in my bed in Chicago, he'd like to wake up in his bed in Philadelphia, and we recognize that we want to get this thing done.

I will not end the investigation until I can look anyone in the eye and tell them that we have carried out our responsibility sufficiently to be sure that we've done what we could to make intelligent decisions about when to end the investigation. We hope to do that as soon as possible. I just hope that people will take a deep breath and just allow us to continue to do what we have to do.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On what planet does that possibly mean he is done?
16. Fitzmas has been extended indefinitely!
Edited on Fri Oct-28-05 05:53 PM by Pithy Cherub
Fitz did not charge Libby with leaking. He held it back. That would leave Fitz with the possibilities of adding it to the list of felonies should Fitz upon review find probable cause.;) Lawyers negotiate in interesting ways.
Second, Fitz did not use the word closed. Lawyers are wordsmiths for a really good reason. Fitz is not done. This was the first inning and Fitz hit a grand slam in nailing Libby. Libby is the cause of the Iraq War failures WAAAAAAAY more than Rove. Rove domestic policies. And that Libby ball is gone, gone, gone.
In winning, take the other teams best player off the field first. Some thought it was Rove. It was never Rove, always Libby.
:party:
21. That's what we have learned in this run-up to the indictment announcement.
Libby was the one who, along with his joined-at-the-hip boss, Crashcart (I love that nickname), WANTED THE IRAQ WAR TO HAPPEN and orchestrated the symphony of lies necessary to bring it about.
Libby was, according to all the reports I've heard, the one who hated Joe Wilson so much it made him rabid; and I think it made him willing to risk imprisonment in order to "get" the man who was telling everyone the Niger yellowcake story was a damn LIE.
I'm still hoping for more indictments to come in the future, of course. But for now I'm pretty happy that Cheney is minus his chief of staff and the guy is OUT of the Whitehouse, no longer doing further damage to our country.
19. OH....Fitz says he cannot tell us what the DANGERS are that
Edited on Fri Oct-28-05 06:03 PM by Gloria
could do us all harm, and he says the obstruction is blocking the truth.
He is sitting on a HUGE pile of stuff and is still digging in. The underlying crime has yet to be fully investigated...although, he most likely HAS done most of the investigating...now, it squeezing a few more people to wrap it up...I hope.
It's about the obstruction...why? Protecting whom and what? It's getting the sand out of his (and our)eyes....
He rolled of a list of questions early on in the Q & A.....
And near the end of the Q & A...an unknown reporter brought up CONSPIRACY...that Libby hadn't been charged with that, but.....
Did you notice how quickly Fitz cut that off??
24. It's not over
It's not over, not by a long shot. Maybe Rove feels a little relief at what Fitz said but the investigation is still ongoing. The big fish will get theirs. Let's see how loyal Scooter is when facing prison time in a Federal pound me in the ass prison. I can feel it, Scooter heard Plame's name from someone and if Cheney gave it to him with the intent to destroy her and Wilson and NOT as a result of regular meetings and updates, then Spiro Agnew Cheney is next.
25. Take heart, read this
"OK, is the investigation finished? It's not over, but I'll tell you this: Very rarely do you bring a charge in a case that's going to be tried and would you ever end a grand jury investigation.
I can tell you, the substantial bulk of the work in this investigation is concluded.
This grand jury's term has expired by statute; it could not be extended. But it's in ordinary course to keep a grand jury open to consider other matters, and that's what we will be doing."
and this:
"QUESTION: What can you say about what you're still working on then?
FITZGERALD: I can't. I don't mean that fliply, but the grand jury doesn't give an announcement about what they're doing, what they're looking at, unless they charge an indictment.FITZGERALD: I can tell you that no one wants this thing to be over as quickly as I do, as quickly as Mr. Eckenrode does. I'd like to wake up in my bed in Chicago, he'd like to wake up in his bed in Philadelphia, and we recognize that we want to get this thing done.
