DU Legal minds ..... Just because Fitz charges Libby now does not |
|
negate further charges later for conspiracy, or whatever, correct? It seems a lot of people here think this is it for Libby, but if the ongoing investigation uncovers proof of further crimes, he can produce more indictments. Correct? or no.
Sam Seder on AAR is even talking as if this is it for Scooter. I just don't believe it. I think this is just a shot across the bow of co-conspirators to tell the truth as the investigation continues.

1. Correct, AND Libby might turn states' evidence. |

2. True, there could be more charges against Libby |
|
Just as there could be charges against others. But not likely IMHO.

5. The indictment handed down today... |
|
....that does NOT mean that Mr. Libby is not subject to being indicted on other charges. Just a guess -- and I am a lawyer with federal criminal defense experience, but not a ton of it -- I think that Fitzgerald just went for the tip of the iceberg and is using this to make Libby cut a deal. A close reading of the indictment says to me that he is holding something over Libby's head and this was an "encouragement" for Libby to come forward and cut a deal. The reference to 19 USC 793, at least to me, was particularly telling. I think Fitzgerald is not only looking at Rove, but definitely looking at Cheney. And I do think that the reference to Official A was indeed Rove.
