60 Minutes Sunday is a MUST SEE!
snip:
Former CIA colleagues say that by revealing her identity, harm could be caused to the CIA’s agents and operations. "If a CIA agent is exposed, then everyone coming in contact with that agent is exposed," says Jim Marcinkowski, a former CIA agent who trained with Plame at the top-secret Virginia facility known as "the Farm." "There is a possibility that there were other agents that would use that same kind of a cover. So they may have been using Brewster Jennings just like her," said Marcinkowski, referring to the fictional firm the CIA set up as her cover that also came out when journalists, including Robert Novak, disclosed it.

Marcinkowski also points out, " is the wife of an ambassador, for example. Now, since this happened…they’ll know there’s a possibility that the wife of a U.S. ambassador is a CIA agent."

snip:
Rep. Rush Holt, D-N.J., a former intelligence analyst and member of the House Intelligence Committee, agrees. "I think any time the identity of a covert agent is released, there is some damage -- and it’s serious." Holt says it’s possible agents overseas could be arrested or even killed, but "if there were, and I’d been briefed on it, I couldn’t talk about it," he tells Bradley. He did say he has been assured the CIA was mitigating the effects of the leak. "They have taken the usual procedures to protect the damage from spreading."

snip:
Wilson tells Bradley, contrary to reports that many knew Plame was in the CIA, that only he and three other people knew. "Well, very few people outside the intelligence community . Her parents and her brother, essentially," says Wilson.

10. Jeepers, how many former CIA are House/Senate ?
Edited on Sat Oct-29-05 09:15 PM by EVDebs
Holt in the House, Bennett in the Senate, former Rep Bob Barr,
Goss formerly in the House, my oh my, you'd think the CIA has a program to get former (current ?) intelligence personnel into office or something like that. I haven't even mentioned the lower level agents that may be on Sen/Reps staff at present...reporting back to the Domestic Operations Division, I suppose.

But that would be illegal don't you know. CIA isn't supposed to be doing domestic operations. Yeah, right.

Operation Chaos www.serendipity.li/cia/lyon.html
mentions illegal domestic operations.

13. or, there's the idea that
the CIA recruits ambitious talented people who make good connections. I'm not suprised that there are former CIAers in the house and senate, frankly. whatever people say about the Agency, the people they hire are topflight, and their training, especially for field work only makes them better.

I know some people who I suspect work for the Agency, (as well as people who I know used to) and as a rule they went to very good schools, are multi-lingual, charismatic, very bright and ambitious, it's not a shock that they do well at most everything they attempt, including politics.

I used to work with somebody who was former CIA. Intelligent, charming, extremely competent...and she couldn't stand BushCo. She moved out of the country after Bush stole the 2004 election.

I'm in tears. Treasonous fucking bastards!!! Everyone she's been in contact with over the last 18 years--all those relationships and connections--are totally ruined. God knows how many people will die because of this. I knew it was bad, but this report just cements it.

Both have degrees in economics and then both went to Brussels, Belguim for further school. Interesting.

Edited on Sun Oct-30-05 08:02 PM by libnnc
I've always thought it strange that Judy got a job with one of the most important newspapers in the world without holding a journalism degree. It's possible to have a varied resume in TV, periodicals and radio but it's always been chiseled in stone that in order to get into newsprint, one MUST have a BA in Journalism from a major J-School (like Columbia or Northwestern or even UNC-Chapel Hill). Judy's got this huge job with THE New York Times and no J-School sheepskin?!?!? Strange indeed.

And now that I hear that her resume is so similar to Valerie's, I'm really going to have to grab my tin foil.

32. More important than ruining her career, it has compromised the security
of our country. How can people think that Bush is strong on the "War on Terror" when he pulls this kind of shit?

34. Fuck you Novak. Plame was helping to keep my kids alive here in Manhattan.
Excellent overview of the damage done by exposing Plame. Watching this report makes it clear it was treasonous to deliberately expose Plame and Brewster Jennings. Thank you, Ed Bradley.

I was watching Fitzgerald on Cspan while at work on Friday. A co-worker that was a vocal bush supporter during the campaign saw what I was watching. "They should just shoot the bastard," he said. "It was treason." I was shocked! I told him about Brewster Jennings, and how anybody that used them for cover or had contact with them was in danger. I also told him Plame worked tracking WMDs. My co-worker was more pissed than I had ever seen him.

The repugs can spin themselves silly, but they'll only dig themselves deeper. They don't understand that a lot of their supporters do not support most of their policies, but vote for them for one reason--that they are supposedly stronger on national security. Once they think the repugs are either too incompetent or too corrupt to keep their families safe, they'll turn on them.
