Why did BUSH praise LIBBY?
Bush said Libby "sacrificed much, " serving the administration in “extraordinary times in our nation’s history.” Well, isn't that strange? Voters are NOT pleased that this administration is fooling around with national security. Do they not think that people worry about the consequences of this leak? Bush is nothing but IRRESPONSIBLE!

1. I think he was recognizing Libby for taking the bullet....
and the pardon will come just when Libby is about to change his mind and squeal on Cheney and Bush.

26. Problem is, a pardon does not prevent him from being re-suppeona'd
...and if they can catch him lying about anything (and having been pardoned for his crimes, it behooves him to speak the truth) they can get him all over again, for perjury, obstruction, lying to officials...

4. I think he is trying...
to salvage what is left of his guy's image, so that people don't look around and notice how many other scandals are cropping up.

It won't work, but that could be what he's doing. The ol' damage control!

Dems etc must push this point - so Bush condones leaks in our national security and money laundering enough is enough!

get reelected (no indictments LAST october 2004) or he would have been a goner, even with Dieboldt

12. It's code for: "Keep quiet, a pardon is in your future"
They didn't want to isolate Libby. If they had, he would be tempted to deal. The best course for the conspiracy is to keep Libby feeling like they are going to take care of him.

They would rather take their chances with unhappy voters than with Libby feeling betrayed and talking to Fitz.

13. I think he had to or else imperil his own future defense in the case.
It's just a gut feeling but I got the impression that Bush had to defend Libby because his own defense will be that everyone involved acted honorably. And, if you think about it, choosing that approach would be natural for Bush. Neither the man nor any member of his administration ever shows the jugular.

19. “extraordinary times ...
in our nation’s history.” Only because of the strange and terrible things Bush has done and how he and his cohorts have managed them. We should all wish and hope for ordinary times. And if Libby was "serving the administration" then he should be condemned by this president for his criminal service. They have managed to replace responsibility with criminal irresponsibility. It's just what they do best.

20. per a Wanda Sykes comic routine: "you gotta stick with your lie"
Edited on Sat Oct-29-05 10:24 PM by cosmicdot
more Wanda Sykes ...

"I don't mean to disrespect the president...that's bullshit. You know I do. Hasn't anyone noticed that his eyes are getting closer and closer together? Pretty soon his left and right eye will be the same eye. If you look at him in just the right light (i.e., the light of truth), he resembles that weasel from the Kipling story, Riki-Tiki-Tavi. Talk about beady. And I'm supposed to trust this guy? He's either the greatest hypnotist since Svengali or we're just stupid.

"Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we get rid of one president for lying about a government-sanctioned hotel break-in? And didn't we oust another because he lied about whom he had sex with? Last time I checked lying to us to justify a war trumps breaking into a hotel room and a blow job. Note the key word: lie. The only thing Bush II has done is get caught in lie after lie. Lies about the deficit, tax cuts, Social Security, the Iraq war. But we let him just keep on keeping on. What's wrong with us? Would we put up with that kind of treatment from anybody else in any other situation? Hell no!

"Are we nuts? Why aren't we having a fit? Bush said that Saddam was an "imminent threat to our security." He said Saddam had weapons of mass destruction. He lied. We didn't find shit. Then he tried to twist it by telling us they found some equipment that could possibly be used to make WMDs. What kind of bullshit is that? Either he's retarded or he thinks we're retarded. I took a physics class when I was in high school, that don't mean that I'm at home whipping up bombs.

"Why aren't we in the streets screaming for him to be impeached? Are we under some fear spell? He lied. I've seen people more upset when Whitney is a no-show. Let Streisand cancel a performance. It's chaos." ~snip~
