Are Cheney and Rove the deserving victims of a CIA sting operation?
There were so many lies, Libby couldn't keep track of them all!
Poor baby. He was trying to put out too many fires at once and now he's been caught red handed with the fire-hose in his bloody grip.

Motives for lying to Fitz:

1) cover up Cheney's fury at the CIA for leaking Wilson's file to the press.

2) cover up Cheney's plot to plug the CIA's leak by discrediting Wilson at the expense of his wife.

3) cover up his own culpability in the matter by claiming he "knew nothing!"

Am I the only one who thinks that Cheney and Rove are the stooges at the receiving end of a CIA sting operation?
After all, when Cheney and Bush were making the CIA take the fall for the incredible disappearing WMD, that is also when the first anonymous story came out in the NYT about Wilson's trip to Niger and his findings there of.

The CIA spooks knew that Cheney and Rove would jump at the bait and use their usual dirty tricks to discredit Wilson publicly. Then with the Plame game in full swing, the CIA notified the Justice Dept. and the rest is history.

Hey, Cheney should have known better than to fuck with the CIA! I suppose he figured that daddy Bush would keep the spooks at bay when the time came to fuck them over. Cheney was wrong. Daddy Bush is not THAT powerful, and neither is he.

Cheney's dirty tricks department is no match for the same dept. at the CIA. I hope they both eat each other alive.

1. I think this entire administration has a good chance
of getting some of that BAD KARMA right back at them some time very soon.

Peace.:hi:

Both Republican leaders of Congress -- DeLay in the House & Frist in the Senate -- are simultaneously having major legal troubles. If the CIA somehow arranged this, it could be for the purpose of creating an opening for congressional investigations of this administration, leading up to impeachment. Just a theory.

3. It would have to be FBI
CIA is not supposed to operate against us citizens here in the US, unless someone is selling secrets, and even then, they have challenges ....

4. I think he means that somebody at the CIA fed the neocons the info
about Wilson/Plame suspecting they would run around town blabbing about it?

5. Well, my sense is, if the sting were in concert with the investigation
it would have to be with FBI lead, seeing as the thing would be happening inside CONUS and dealing with US citizens.

It doesn't do the CIA any good to play those kinds of games--with Porter Goss in there, there's too much leakage and divisiveness. Someone will rat to him, and then there goes your justification, and justice.

I think it went down as stated, Cheney dug it up, passed it to Scooter and Rove, and directed them to smear Valerie. Scooter took on the job with slightly greater zeal than Rove. When he got caught, he tried to blame the press, and hoped that the tradition of shielding sources would be enough to protect him.

The press got pissed when they realized they were being used, and ratted him out.

If there's more, it will make an even better book or movie!!!

into f---ing spaghetti.............I can't keep it all straight anymore. Trying to read the indictment was the last straw.

9. These CIA spooks would not be operating in an official capacity.
They could be a clandestine group of "George Smileys" within the mothership who took matters into their own hands.

Sort of like covert whistle-blowers who began a chess game against the Cheney/Rove dirty tricks dept. and won. Very John LaCarre!

In fact, I wish I could get Mr. LaCarre's take on this whole Plame game. I bet he has some interesting insights.

11. I have been wondering the same thing for some time now.
Paybacks are hell. And yes it would be a covert group within
the CIA.
