Does Ftizgerald really plan on getting the "truth"?
He emphasized that point in his news conference after the indictment of Libby. But doesn't he know these people do not plan on changing? They are not running scared. They are only looking for a way to destroy him by making it appear they are keeping their distance. It's just a matter of time.

They plan on continuing their back stabbing and their personal attacks on everyone that disagrees with them. They plan on continuing the deception and the lies. They see no reason to change. Fitzgerald is going to have to make a bigger splash if he is going to get this White House's attention.

1. So far so good. He seems to have reported the truth so far.

2. Fitzgerald made a big fat splash with me. I say wait before
you portend any negative results.

3. Feh. That's what they want everybody to think -- that they are
invincible. But they're not; nobody is. And Fitzgerald prosecuted mobsters and is also the guy who prosecuted the first WTC bombing -- meaning he got Al Qaeda terrorists thrown in jail. I can't think of many more dangerous defendants than Al Qaeda and the Mafia. I really don't think he's even slightly intimidated by the Bushies or that he gives a crap what they do or say about him. He doesn't have to "get their attention." He will just do his job, regardless. This business of assuming Bush and his goons are so powerful nothing can be done has got to stop -- Fitzgerald has already proved that we are still, underneath it all, a nation of laws and that there are still some honorable people who intend to keep it that way.

4. Fitz doesn't care what others think of him. Believe that.

His investigation of the Ryan administration was very quiet in the beginning. No front page articles on the front of the Tribune or the Sun-Times. He started with something small and worked his way up -- all the way to the Governor's office.

Same deal with his investigation into City Hall in Chicago. You've got Democratic alderman sprewing the same talking points as DC Rethugs. You know the ones:

"out of control prosecutor"

"overzealous prosecutor"

"indicting something that isn't even a crime, this is politics!"

Sad to say, the Democratic machine in Chicago is probably as strong as the national Republican party. There have been some not-so-subtle threats against Fitzgerald, but he seems to keep plugging away at it.

<snip>

Since arriving in Chicago in 2001, Fitzgerald has rooted out political corruption with the same zeal he applied to terrorism in New York.

Dozens of city workers and trucking executives have been indicted in a payoff investigation, including the former boss at the city water department, who was a political powerhouse.

Fraud charges

On April 29, agents raided City Hall and took away piles of records —resulting in fraud charges against two city officials from the mayor’s family’s home ward. They are accused of violating a long-standing court order against using politics as a basis for hiring workers.

Daley, whose father built the Chicago Machine with Election Day get-out-the-vote workers who held patronage jobs on the city payroll, says he is determined to reform the hiring process. But he made a point of telling reporters it was “important to note that for more than 30 years, through six administrations, such violations have been treated as civil matters — until now.”

Chicago officials aren’t the only ones concerned about Fitzgerald’s zeal.

5. If no-one squeals
then it is likely that the ones that go to jail will be pardoned the day Bush leaves office.

At the most they'll spend a couple years in jail, then get out and get their bonuses that Bush and Cheney promised them if they kept their mouths shut.

I pray the chain goes all the way to Bush and he resigns but these guys seem so slimy it will be hard to do.

6. Fritz: "Truth is the Engine of Justice"...
Does this sound like someone that is going to "pack up and go home" ?

No... what we have here is a true patriot, a crusader, much in the vane of Elliot Ness of days gone by....

Believe it or not, there are folks that try to do the right thing. I truly believe Fitzgerald is one of these people. Unfortunately these are not the same people that are in "power" in this country.

7. I believe that Fitzgerald will attempt to get at the truth...
he seems to be a pretty principled prosecutor without political ties. With that being said I would also like to point out that I am not ready to canonize him just yet.

The WH seems to be willing to just drag this thing out until Fitzpatrick runs out of time or the midterm elections pass. I hope he is able to counter their strategy.

8. All I can say, kentuck. . . .
is to share an old Venetian proverb to answer your despair about their "continuing the deception and the lies:"

(translated)

The devil makes the pot but never the lid!

So Fitzgerald has better angels of our nature on his side. . .have faith.

9. Yes.
He isn't a democrat, nor is he a republican. All he cares about is truth and justice.

I was very impressed listening to him. He wants to right a wrong (outing Plame) and I think he will

11. If they do that, they'll just make Fitz angry, and they won't like him when
he's angry...

Plus Fitzgerald has prosecuted and convicted a member of the Gambino Crime Family, and members of Al-Qaeda, IRA terrorists, etc.

I don't think he's afraid of these spoiled blue-blood legacy pricks.
