Why is William Safire even opening his mouth
I thought he retired ... didn't he say a while back that he was going to retire?

He said today on MTP that Fitzg'ld found that there was no crime re: actually leaking the name of ... yada yada yada.
Fitz'ld. only said that he was not making an allegation in this indictment to that effect.

Safire did the same sort of thing in his 'analysis' of watergate. Lie, lie, lie .....

1. I guess russert had to dick Saffire up.
Otherwise he couldn't have had a completely pro-bush press panel.

What Safire didn't seem to hear was the fact that Fitzgerald said he couldn't indict on the leak because he couldn't get to the truth. The lying and obstruction of justice kept him from being able to find out everything he needed to find out. He may not have indicted on the leak itself, but he also didn't rule it out. At least that was my take.

Safire is wrong. And is he the only one at the Times who still supports Judy Miller?

On edit: OTOH -- Broder was great. He seems to get it.

4. Rove has obviously sounded "all hands on deck."
He's trying to drown out the opposition for the weekend. I'm sure the admin would like to keep discussions like "what did the President know and when did he know it" to an absolute minimum.
