I have never seen so many anti-bush editorials/letters in the paper.
Never. I'm honestly pretty amazed at it, though I agree with every one of them. I've been checking Texas newspapers in four different cities--Houston, Dallas, Ft. Worth and Austin. I don't know if it's just in the past week or so, but I actually have had a hard time finding any editorials or letters in FAVOR of bush or his administration. Even the ones that aren't openly negative aren't supportive. The most striking was today's Ft. Worth Star-Telegram. Holy shit. Half of a full page from the editors about why they now think Iraq was a big mistake. They rah-rahed it before. Then every letter but one expressed the same negative sentiments about the war as the editorial.

My question: do you think the media (some of them, anyway) feel emboldened by the recent indictments and trouble that's surely still to come? Or was this backlash coming anyway?

1. Check out the change in attitudes at fark.com....
It used to be rah-rah war, and now it's 95% the bush league are criminally incompetent. Just a random sample of America...

2. Ratings
Media backs what the country wants. They now sense that the mood of the country is anti Bush and they are going with it.

4. I saw where bush* dropped 10 points in a month in overall approval
... in Texas.

I wonder if it's due in part to the hurricanes or if people here are just finally catching on.

Here's the link to the survey USA poll.

5. The backlash might have come anyway
but taken longer. As usual (these days) the media is waiting to see what's safe to say.

Those papers who are saying Iraq was a big mistake: do they have the guts to admit *they* also made a big mistake in "rah-rahing" it?

9. Actually, in this case, yes.
The Ft. Worth Star-Telegram one I read online today shocked me in part because they DID admit and acknowledge that they once supported the idea (though with grave reservations, they say).

Also, they endorsed bush in 2004. Here was there gist of their endorsement: we are endorsing the bush we THOUGHT we were getting in 2000. Can you believe that shit? THAT was their endorsement of him.

The Dallas Morning News was even worse: they endorsed him in 2004, too, but only after listing everything he did wrong for four years, then giving no other reason to endorse him other than "because we do."

Real convincing, huh? I'm not sure either one could really be considered an endorsement. They were hands-down the weirdest ones I've ever seen. It was like they didn't really want to, but didn't have the balls to admit it.

They're admitting stuff now. :eyes:

13. Because Bush is ending his use by date...
All the media had to do was help him get "re-elected" in 2004. They don't need to protect him anymore. They helped him get his war started and got him back in office. Mission Accomplished.

14. Buckaroo Will Always have Rubbock
Buckaroo Bush no doubt will always have the admiration and devotion of the op-ed pages of the Lubbock Avalanche--Journal.

19. I felt that a few years ago.
That, God forbid, if he got two terms, we'd see him hit the lowest approval rating of any president since they started doing such polls.

23. I've Read The Lubbock Rag
I'll admit to reading the Lubbock rag. I find greater Lubbock to be inevitable if I'm driving to Northern New Mexico or Colorado, so I pull off for the night. I chose to read the Avalanche--Journal instead of McPaper and got an eyeful.

Curiosity generates the clutter.

22. I've noticed that, as well.
Even my kid noticed that, asked me the other day where they went. Hell, it's hard to find those magnet ribbon thingies anymore. Guess they went out of style. Rolling eyes.
