Russert Sez (on Today) Media Tired of Plamegate, Will Shift To SCOTUS
Edited on Mon Oct-31-05 12:20 PM by stopbush
In so many words.

Matt Lauer had Potato(e) Boy on this am. Russet opined that the Plamegate story was basically dead in the media until "Scooter Libby appears in court etc," and that a "few things" about Plamegate will continue to dribble out in the media. Until then (and in spite of the gravity of Plamegate, IMO), the MSM will be obsessed with the Alito nomination.

So, * calls for a vote on Alito by year's end, and Russet thinks this ONE story will dominate the news for the next 2 months...and that Plamegate is gonna go away.

Incredible, isn't it?

3. Them's the marching orders from the White House
to the media. Distract, distract, distract. Ignore the BIG story about bu$hco being lying, murderous criminals. Talk about SCOTUS instead.

It's all propaganda.

4. The old switcheroo
Am I the only one cynical enough to see that the Mier's
nomination was made to keep everybody off balance about the
CIA leak probe. Then just the day before the charges come
down, Bush announces Mier's withdrawal and now the day after
the charges, Bush announces his new nominee. Keep your eye on
the ball because it's bouncing all over the place.

Now the media will only focus on Scallia-lite and forget about
the CIA leak, Bill Frist, and Tom Delay. And we thought Bush
was a dumass.

It's unhealthy to consider every screw up as an intentional Rove strategy. Please stop overestimating Rove.

Rita Cosby's promo ads even say as much, "We're gonna' make news!" she yells.

6. This is what makes my blood boil.
I can almost believe some of the tinfoil hat theories about Bush nominating Miers as a stalking horse. Right after Libby gets indicted and America is just starting to learn about the corruption of Team Bush, they push another right wing nominee onto center stage to divert all discussion of Libby.

And the media will just play along like the lapdogs they are.

This is just so typical. Remember during the campaign, whenever Kerry would have some big news to report, like his VP announcement, Bush would always announce some new "major policy speech" that had to be carried at the same time? How can America be so dumb?

13. I'm with you.
Also, and I think this is important,CBS' "60 Minutes" remains the highest-rated news program in America. Just last week, it was ranked #10.

That means millions upon millions of Americans watched last night as former CIA employees, and Joe Wilson, outlined the impact of outing Valerie Plame in plain English, no politics, no partisanship, no agenda, no spin. It was shocking even to me, to hear it from their mouths.

I've got bad news for the host of "Press the Meat." This story is not going away.

15. Medand the media whores would be doing exactly what the White House
wants the to. Keep mouthing the same old shit over and over again on every news channel, until people just become numb. The people will forget that the bottom of the iceberg hasn't even been seen yet. bush is a puppet for greater powers behind the scene who needed him to tell the public that there are weapons of mass destruction, (in that the war had been planned for years). I hope someone in the media will say "wait aren't we forgetting something?" SOMEONE outed Valerie Plame, they committed a treason by doing so and will have to pay the price!"

20. I thing we are going to need an action plan to keep this story out there.
Suggestions:

1) Start an email campaign to deluge Democratic elected officials that we need them to stay focused on Plamegate- and keep it in the news and in their remarks on camera) while the SCOTUS confirmation is going on.

2) Barrage media with letters demanding that they continue the Plamegate coverage.

3) See if we can inspire Moveon.org (or anyone else we can think of with funds available or the ability to collect funds nationally in a hurry) to run ads and commercials to remind America what these criminals are up to and that the timing of the SCOTUS controversy is a deliberate attempt to focus attention away from their criminal actions.

Any other ideas?

26. GOOD. Let's take the focus off, and let Fitzgerald do his work
It's been clear from the last week of coverage that the corporate media has no intention of giving this story anything resembling fair coverage so just let it drop. Better spiked until Fitzgerald has something new to work with than continuously spun like top until then.

27. is it just me....
or does Tim Russert have a major conflict of interest? How is it possible that he can host Meet the Press and interview people about the Plame outing, when he is involved in the story? And how can Matt Lauer ask Russert questions about it and expect an unbiased answer? This incestuous relationship between journalists and politics HAS to stop already.

37. Oh it's official then. Press declares story dead, moves on. I think they
did that in 2003 and 2004 also.

The corporate media, especially TV, is like a butterfly, going from headline to headline. To them, nothing is inherently worthy of attention unless MSM tells us it is and chooses to cover it.

Like after "mission accomplished," Iraq was over. On some networks disappeared young women get wall to wall coverage. Iraq, maybe some notice if a really big bomb goes off near where the media hang out and they have cool video of a big boom. Ordinary bombings are such a common occurance that they barely merit any mention at all. Or if the Administration once again tells us how great things are going in Iraq, that gets live coverage.

Good that the media is "tired" of Plame. Fitzgerald can continue his investigation without a camera in his face. (News! Fitzgerald goes to Starbucks! News! He heads back from Starbucks!)
