Tell me I don't have cooties! I am not sure if i am just being paranoid
but it seems that when I post what I think are good comments and thoughts about relevant issues regarding the CIA leak scadal my postings seem to sink like stones in a pond. Of course there are a few instances where people have replied, but overall I get a chilly feeling to the lack of response to my attempts at intelligent conservation.

Do I say stupid things?

Have I said things to make people think that I am freeptard?

Am I posting at non busy times of the day?

Or is my postings so full of crap that know feels that they are worth anything.

I need to know these things so that I am aware if I am inadvertently wasting people's time.

1. There's a lot of randomness to it.
My favorite posts usually disappear quickly. My flippant one-liners often get some attention. Don't take it personally.

2. My problem is that I need to write better.
Not that it has anything to do with your concern! I should think before I post and try being less offensive than I might be otherwise. I'm learning, though!

5. Same thing here
although I suspect that there are a lot of "hot posts" that seem to be drawing a lot of attention....I'm not worried about it.

I know I'm brilliant

6. Posts are sinking fast, not just you
There are lots of people wanting to say lots of things and posts are sinking kerplunk into the depths of archive. We all have times like this and right now many want to express their opinions and be heard rather than discuss, in my opinion no flames necessary. Keep posting.

8. I wouldn't take it personally. A few posts down the list
is my post, asking if this CIA Leak forum should stay up. I was asking if people agreed or disagreed with my idea that it should remain. As of this writing, there are only four responses! Of course I'm sure EVERYONE has an idea, either agreeing or disagreeing. Some just might not want to say, some might want to think about it. Same goes for your posts. Sometimes I read something, think about it a while, before I go back and reply.

9. Keep chugging
There is not a lot of rhyme or reason to post/response ratio.

There is some degree of clique factor to DU so when you reach about 4 million posts you reach a larger segment of the choir.

Sometimes the most thoughtful posts wander away to die by themselves while flippant three-worders get dozens of similarly flippant replies.

Don't take it personally. I saw a post once that was the poster's 80somethingth consecutive without reply.

This could be the basis for an interesting thesis.

10. Don't worry, it happens with all of us, especially during times
like the present with so much going on. Please continue to post your thoughts, even though you might not be getting lots of replies, I am sure you are being read.

12. It's a normal feeling
One I get frequently.

It's kind of random what will "hit" people's buttons and what will sink like a stone.

Try some good flame bait. That's always good for a lot of responses. Want a sure fire one? Ralph Nader.

14. Sometimes you just need to repackage the sinking posts
and start a new thread, same topic.

For example, Friday afternoon I posted that I thought that the five counts together indicate an obvious cover-up. It sunk like a rock. After I came back from class, I reposted it, added a little extra commentary, and titled the thread "Watergate did not start with an indictment of Nixon. Merry Fitzmas."

The new thread, even though it wasn't all that different from the old thread, found itself on the Greatest page within about a half hour, and while it only reached about thirty replies, it also had about 15 Greatest votes.

If at first your posts sink, try reposting a new thread with a more provocative title.

18. You're not wasting people's time
I thought I was on ignore too. But it happens all the time to everyone.
My observation is that commentary in times of high traffic gets much less attention than new news gleaned from elsewhere.

19. I do my best posts late at night
which unfortunately is very early morning in most of the US, so I'm sure nobody sees them. That's just a fact of life I've come to accept.

21. There you go--I waited for it to sink then I rescued it!
I've been a member for a while and just yesterday I had two firsts-I posted something on LBN that did not get locked and it actually got more than 50 responses. I felt like I won the lottery!

22. Many posts fall through the fodder
Edited on Mon Oct-31-05 04:39 PM by NoBushSpokenHere
I have had some I thought would incite a large amount of discussion just drop through the pages like autumn leaves on a windy day. Then there have been other posts I have made that surprisingly were popular enough to stay for more than a few days. Rhyme or reason? No, there is none. I have learned a bit about writing headlines to attract more attention to the content. This seems to help. I have also learned not to over dramatize the headline… It sometimes is a difficult balance to maintain. Time of day seems to help as well. It all depends on this thing called Karma.

Funniest thing is, the posts I take the most time writing are the ones that are piled on a hillside where they landed when the wind calmed. The ones written on a whim, those are the ones people seem to enjoy the most. Rhyme or reason? There is none, only a thing called Karma.
