I just received a strongly worded message from ebay that |
|
my account is going to be suspended and then terminated if I don't "re-update" my account information. I was instructed to do so immediately and they gave me a security number.
I have never had an ebay account.
What should I make of this?

I have an EBay account. I got that same message about a month ago. I did not respond to the link, but I did log into my account. That said, people will fleece anyone.

Send it to your ISP first, usually abuse@yourisp.com. THEN deliete it.
This is phishing, this is illegal, and your ISP can better deal with the little scumbag sending it out than you can, but they have to get it first.

A fishing expedition to your email address to try and fool you into giving out account info- Delete it, or forward it to your server as "abuse." It is fraud. BHN

I monitor several public mailboxes for the company i work for and literally it receives about 300 pieces of spam a day.
Of those, about 5% of those are ebay, paypal, lotterry or other bank scams.

39. So, you got an eyeful about Spoofs. Great! |
|
But how can you tell real messages from fake? Easy. Log into Ebay and go to your My Ebay page. Look on the left side for the My Messages link. Any real Email from Ebay to you will be there. If you get a questionable email, forward it to spoof@ebay.com, then check My Messages. If it's a real message, you will find it there.
