What do you believe to be true that you can not possibly prove?
e.g. - I believe an outbreak of the bird flue will be used to keep people off the streets (and out of the banks) when our currency collapses in February, 2006.

I believe the military's "Bunker Buster" program was dropped because Cheney realized the bomb might be used on him.

I believe the 911 message whispered in GW's ear was the correct pronunciation of the goat's name and the look on GW's face was the simple recognition that the show must go on.

What do you believe?

If I'm wrong, I go to "hell" (where you, presumably, won't be).

If you're wrong, you rot in a box (that's what you do when there's no afterlife) and I'll never see a dime.

44. I believe in astrology, as in
Edited on Sat Nov-05-05 02:35 AM by Jamastiene
those charts that people have made based on the date they were born. A lady my family was friends with back then did a little booklet on me that described me to a tee. I was 1 day old when she started reading my birth information in the stars and typing the booklet about me. I was 3 days old when she finished. I read it when I was in my mid 20's. I thought most of it either was true, seemed likely, or would become true, but one part of it was crazy. It said I would have gall bladder problems. Turned out to be right too though. I did have gall bladder attacks all summer this year. I no longer have a gall bladder. I couldn't live with that thing attacking me any longer. It said I would be introverted. I am. It said a lot of things that only I would know whether it's true or not and it is. It described the person I am today, not the little baby I was when I was born. Creepy. I believe that your zodiac sign really does define your personality to some extent and absolutely decides some other traits.

I would like to know the answer to that one too. I have never seen any information on that one, but I know it pegged me to a T. I do wonder how they explain that though. I do know time plays a role. Two people born minutes apart CAN have different readings. That is the only explanation I can give. Do you know the birthdate and times of any twins? I mean time of day each twin was born. I think there are still a few web sites around that offer free charts with free readings. It may confirm that time makes a difference. Everything in space is always moving.

DON QUIXOTE
Hand over that golden helmet!

BARBER
But this is a shaving basin!

DON QUIXOTE
Shaving basin! Know thou not what this really is?
The Golden Helmet of Mambrino!
When worn by one of noble heart, it renders
him invulnerable to all wounds!
(to the Barber whacking the barrel with his sword)
Hand it over!

Thou Golden Helmet of Mambrino,
With so illustrious a past,
Too long hast thou been lost to glory,
Th'art rediscovered now at last!
Golden Helmet of Mambrino
There can be no hat like thee!
Thou and I now, ere I die now,
Will make golden history!

BARBER
(aside to Sancho)
I can hear the cuckoo singing
In the cuckooberry tree...

SANCHO
(aside to Barber)
If he says that that's a helmet,
I suggest that you agree...

BARBER
(aside to Sancho)
But he'll find it is not gold
And will not make him bold and brave...

SANCHO
(aside to Barber)
Well, at least he'll find it useful
If he ever needs a shave!

DON QUIXOTE
Thou Golden Helmet of Mambrino,
Thy deeds the world will not forget,
Now Don Quixote de La Mancha,
Will bring thee greater glory yet!

DON QUIXOTE, BARBER, SANCHO, MULETEERS
Golden Helmet of Mambrino
There can be no hat like thee.

DON QUIXOTE
Thou and I now, ere I die now,
Will make golden history!

BARBER, SANCHO, MULETEERS
Golden Helmet of Mambrino
Will make golden history!

27. "nobody knows what I believe........" (Shinedown. Lovely stuff.)
I believe that the Wheel will turn, and that those who seek to stop it will only help it turn.

I believe it's motherfucking important to clap your hands for Tinkerbell.

I believe in good manners--sorry, thank you, please, would you like a drink/snack, please make yourself at home, nice to have met you, and drive carefully.

I believe in holding doors for women, men, or any person behind you, or anyone with packages.

I believe in personal freedom.

I believe in the right to say no.

I believe in questioning authority, and questioning the very IDEA of authority.

I believe that Do as Thou Wilt is the whole of The Law, and that "An it harm none" is a nice touch but not necessary if you understand that you don't get to interfere with what OTHER PEOPLE, uh, wilt.

I believe that most Democrats, Republicans, Wiccans, fundies, racists, bigots, morons, poets, philosophers, artists, anarchists, druggies, broken, fixed, and general humans really do mean well--but that not all of them grasp that what is well for THEM is not always well for me. (Those that grasp that but do not care do NOT really mean well.)

I believe in reincarnation.

I believe that we cannot remember other lives or or the other side for very bad reasons.

I believe taking down the Veil would save us.

I believe the elections in 2000 AND 2004 were stolen.

I believe the god most Xtians worship is really Tiamat, and that Satan is really Marduk.

I believe that motivation matters as much or more than action.

I believe that America can be saved.

I believe that America can be everything we were ever told it was, and that fulfilling those LIES and making this a true land of the free, home of the brave--really allowing and ensuring the rights to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness--would serve the liars right.

I believe that everyone really wants those last things, and that if they could understand letting EVERYONE have them doesn't reduce anyone's rights, there would be revolution overnight. See "Veil"

I believe there's no one true religion, path, political party, life-plan, lifestyle, fashion, art, musick, magick.

I believe that anyone who thinks they have the one, wholly and only correct opinion about ANYTHING is dangerously mentally ill.

I believe everything turns out all right a fuck of a lot more often than anyone can explain regardless of god(ess) credited or uncredited for said luck.

I believe those who sin--deliberately and selfishly hurting another, consciously, for personal gain--will reap what they sow.

I believe DU kicks ass. : )

32. Hrm, just the things a lot of people do.
Generally just to manage to get out of bed, I have to force belief in the following things, at least during my waking hours. I could be totally wrong, in fact I'm probably wrong on most of them, but it's necessary to function properly:

That there's only one conscious entity rattling around in my brainpan.
That no important universal physical constants will suddenly change.
That the world around me isn't just a really long dream.
That if a common solid object vanishes, it's just in my couch cushions.
And finally, that my day wouldn't be spent better in bed.

You know, stuff like that.

48. nothing

I believe in the scientific method. I reserve judgment until I can make a convincing case to myself. That means investigating something until I can connect the dots.

That doesn't preclude theorizing, but theorizing based on research and observation is not the same thing as 'belief'.

Virtually everything we think we "know" is really a "belief" that can't be proven. That doesn't mean we shouldn't believe in things anyway. You won't see me jumping off any tall buildings because, even though I can't prove it, I believe in gravity. And I think it's wise to have such a belief.
