The voting machines STILL have "proprietary" software that is
Edited on Tue Nov-08-05 02:16 AM by texpatriot2004
counting the votes...that is NO democracy.

Apparently the Rethugs have now done away with exit polling in certain places.

The GAO report says the machines are not secure and are subject to a variety of problems.

When do we call a spade a spade? The "elections" are rigged or at the very least...they can be rigged.

Honestly, how many times must we go to the polls to do the same thing expecting the results to be different all the while things are getting worse? That is INSANE.

I hate being "negative" about this issue but it's the truth, it's reality.

1. Insanity = doing the same thing & expecting the results to be
different.

5. I mean the exit pollsters will be in the unemployment lines soon
who needs a exit poll company that will predict the outcome of a election the day after the election, it does not make sense.

Their whole reason for being will be a joke, unless they want to get into the "monday morning quarterbacking" business.

6. No way in hell should a company like Diebold
have proprietary software that counts the votes. I don't care if it's for city dog catcher let alone POTUS. That software needs to be taken out of voting machines and replaced with open-source code. The people who run these election commissions across the country should have some kind of knowledge about what this technology is all about. There needs to be bipartisan commissions in every state overseeing elections in their jurisdiction.

7. Completely unfair TO ME
I want to make sure my vote was counted, without having to call in MY computer expert Friend. The whole e-voting thing is not fair TO ME.

8. You can damn well better believe
if it were Dems on the winning end of voting machine irregularities there'd be blood in the streets until something was done. Imagine if Hillary were in the WH right now, or if Bill had won by the same questionable means as * has.

13. This is all so pathetic. In 2004, one of my friends
voting in the Republican primary could not get his selection for a judge to register, the machine kept switching his vote to another candidate. After twenty minutes fiddling on the computer with poll workers, his vote finally registered on the screen, but who knows what happened inside the machine. And who knows how many other voters had the same problem but didn't realize what was happening.

In the general election, my vote was switched to the incumbent Republican congressman as I closed out my machine.

Vote switching is not a glitch. Computers must be programed to switch votes.

I'm voting in today's NC election only because I promised a neighbor I'd vote for him; but I have absolutely no confidence in my vote being counted.

I fear we'd better get prepared for our fourth fixed election.

Thoroughly disgusted in Western North Carolina.

14. That has happened to me too. In 2002 the vote switch thing -
which like you said, doesn't just happen, it's not a "glitch" my vote switched right before my eyes. I finally got it right again and as I hit my that final button it switched right in front of my eyes.

I talked to the poll workers - they looked at me like I was from Mars - said there was nothing I could do about it, nothing they could do. They said I could call and complain to somebody or other. They didn't have a phone number. I did find it on my own. Made about 6 or 7 phone calls and was told "they were aware of the problem" and "mine wasn't the first call on this matter" but they couldn't tell me any more.

Guess what, Ron Kirk (the man I voted for) lost and CORNYN "won" - go figure.

18. Having this code be black box is a joke... it adds.. whoo hoo.
I'm a programmer, I do this for a living. This code just tallies votes, how trade secret can total = total +1 be? I mean I deal with wholesale packs, pallets, cartons rtl qty etc, I could code a program that tallies votes in a couple of hours... this is a joke.

19. You don't think they would really
get rid of a sweet setup like that, do you? We have a senator who might run for president that used to be involved with one of the companies that made the machines. They're staying, whether "the people" want them or not.
