Drudge in a dither over gay cowboy movie that could be Oscar-worthy
LAT blog, Oscar Beat: Gay Cowboys? We're Shocked, Shocked
by Steve Pond

Back in February, Matt Drudge reported that Hollywood was "alarmed" by Oscar host Chris Rock's comments to Entertainment Weekly that straight black men didn't watch the Oscars. The comic had made similar comments a month earlier without stirring up much of a fuss, but the Drudge Report managed to briefly make a news story out of Rock's trademark irreverence.

Now Drudge has found something else that is, he claims, shocking Hollywood: the fact that the upcoming film "Brokeback Mountain" is about gay cowboys. What's more, he's discovered that director Ang Lee's film, which stars Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal and has been showing at festivals and screening rooms for a couple of months to a generally rapturous reception, might just end up competing for a few Academy Awards.

Drudge might be coming to the party a little late once again, but in a year of politically charged films, from "Good Night, and Good Luck" and "Crash" to the upcoming "Munich" and "Syriana," the columnist may well be supplying a talking point for a potential new Oscar-season assault on Hollywood. The movie, he says, "gives the liberal-leaning Academy a great chance to stick its thumb in conservatives' eyes."

Tastey...It will be like taking a bath in warm liquid chocolate while neekid men dance around me and call me beautiful serving my every whim saying that they'll be mine forever as they massage my body with their thick strong sweaty hands...

ahem....sorry...got a little carried away...

8. Jake Gillenhall (sp) and Heath Ledger. I figure that would add some appeal
right?

I wonder how many guys won't go see this, because they might be afraid people will think they are gay?

26. I'm not gay, but it looks like a good movie
So I may go see it, 'cause I don't care what people think.

Heck, it has to be better than most movies coming out today, gay or straight.

6. I look forward to any movie based on writing by Annie Proulx.
She's a wonderful writer.

That said, I'm not sure why a straight guy of any race would watch the Oscars, unless he were in the industry.

9. The story it's based on is very good, and historically,
There's a strong background for gay cowboys. Seriously!

11. I'd never given that possiblity a thought. How very interesting. Humans
are so diverse. It's a marvel to be celebrated, not villified.

10. Man, that closet door of Matt's is welded shut, eh?
This is sad...that he is so afraid of his homosexuality that he has to trash anything gay or gay themed.

Sad. Ang Lee is one of my favorite directors...."The Wedding Banquet", another gay themed film...is one of my favorite Ang Lee films.

I am so looking forward to seeing "Brokeback Mountain". I saw the trailer for it when I saw "Capote" two weeks ago...looks like a superb film.

12. Wish they had come up with another name for the film....
My warped little Popular Culture-rotted brain reads "Brokeback Mountain" and sees "BAREBACK Mountain"... Just a Jawn-thing....

and I don't watch ANY of those "OOOOOH! Watch us folks give each other in our Industry handjobs and waste 5 hours of TV time doing it" shows either. Film, music, sports, politics....none of them.

17. Saw the trailer - and immediately thought of SOUTH PARK
Turns out that South Park had an independent film festival of its own with a movie called Gay Cowboys Eating Pudding. It was supposed to be an art film...

But after the Brokeback Mountain trailer faded out, while I pondered what an interesting story this was to tackle, that South Park episode popped into my head. Damn you, Matt and Trey! (playfully shaking fist)
