"Not that Wilson has shot straight. I thought he's missed a couple of..."
''times.''

There. Tweet finally came out and said it himself, after WEEKS of allowing scum like Toensing, Orin, Fund (the list is VERY long) come on and accuse Wilson of lying, dissembling, distorting, most of the time without even specifying a SINGLE instance of said perfidy.

Of course, he didn't cite anything himself, either, just breezed past this outrageous calumny while commenting on the spurious assertions in favor of war.

simply mindboggling

and next......

Ed ffffing MEESE!!!!

2. Ed Meese?
He was on the show? I don't watch this tripe so I don't know about who the usual guests are. Why should I listen to this GOP hack who was twice investigated by a so-called independent prosecutor?

11. Of course.
Look, I wouldn't give Matthews any credit positive or negative - he is just looking at his ratings.

But I will tell you, there are good people, even from the Nixon and Reagan administrations on our side here. Korb was a Reagan guy - he is also a True Majority person. Nixon's EPA guy came out strongly for Kerry.

It really is an "American Society" that makes the decision. Democrats really are the moderate party now - it is just a fact. And we are a moderate nation. Slow, sometimes - but we do make the right decision in the end - and we will now.

Joe

3. Dr. H. S. Thompson on Ed Meese
A:
I believe that Ed Meese -- being a person without any honor, a fat bastard, really a congenital cheap pig in the style of and on the level of Richard Nixon -- should be locked in a large concrete basement with an elk. And the elk should be ram-fed full of acid before he's put in there.
Q:
An angry, horny acid-crazed elk.
A:
Meese is naked, and the elk is huge, maybe 800 plus.
Q:
Elk can be ugly customers.
A:
And once they're full of acid, and they're really horny -- oh yeah, all night long!

7. thanky thanky thanky!!!! I'd forgotten all about that!
did you read about the one hour film on HST's funeral?

Johnny Depp paid 2.6 MILLION to have that fist built, among other preps for the ceremony last summer

it's at Starzfest, or something in Colorado this weekend, IIRC

anyway, coming up soon.

I just read about it today

thanks for the reminder!

10. here
He was talking about the possible spurious use of evidence to support going to war, and brought up Wilson/Niger; how it affected the VP's office.

from there he immediately lit into Wilson, with just about exactly the words I quoted, WRT his characterization of his report, and his role surrounding it. He didn't go into any detail, just mentioned it in passing, just the way I quoted it.

Total hit and run, withOUT any other context. Just trying to spread the foul rumor that Wilson was much less than above board in his actions

that's about the best I can do

17. Still, the premise of what Matthews was saying was VERY anti-Cheney
He did say that Wilson didn't always shoot straight, but that Cheney, et al was much worse

8. He said he saw the document
and he couldn't have at the time he said he did because the CIA didn't have it yet. Mixed up the time that he saw it. Something like that. Petty stuff.

12. did he say that today? I must have missed that part. If so, then I
blew my premise.

Wilson HAS explained that, btw, because when he was asked by the senate about what he saw, and when, they WOULDN't allow him to see the documents to which they were referring

he went back, looked at the relevant material, then asked the Senate to allow him to amend his remarks, but they wouldn't let him. didn't even answer, IIRC

it's in his letter of response to the Hatch/Roberts/Bond addendum

14. I was explaining the accusation
I know Wilson explained whatever the lies are supposed to be. That's why I said petty stuff. No, Matthews didn't address it today, it's like he has to make these perfunctory remarks or he's going to get spanked or something. But the supposed lies have been explained in the past, it isn't just stuff out of complete thin air, that's all I meant.

15. thanks....that's the only thing I've come across which casts any doubts
on Wilson's veracity, far as I've been able to tell.

the tweety quote is coming up in just a moment, btw, on rerun

I'm taping it this time

so far, it's been astounding in the one-way pounding the junta's been absorbing, first in the Shuster report, then in an exchange between tweet, Isikoff, and the fat guy from the NY Daily News

only problem IS...this all should have been done, big time, about three YEARS ago, cause most of what they're discussing has been well known by those who've been paying attention

Shubert's report even showed the clips of Borger asking Cheney about the Czech meeting of Atta, quoted him saying it had been proven, then his denying it, THEN showing the MTP clip where he DID say it had been wrapped up, and basically proven.

Isikoff was taken aback by that, but couldn't quite come right out and say Cheney was lying his ass off

statements to back it up.

He's a REAL PRESSTITUTE.

And he is on several times a night with reruns. So that can be nothing but good.
