3. Sometimes it happens... |

What with all the spam and shit floating through the ether.
Try rebooting everything, (router, hubs, etc) just in case its a local problem.

8. There may be a transient PAIX problem. |

Once upon a time I could examine backbone traffic problems but it's been too long for me to do it quickly these days.

12. It has to do with the Internet topology. |
|
The Internet "nervous system" has major trunk lines along which large volumes of traffic flow from region to region (where a 'region' is in terms of topology, not necessarily geography). An 'IX' is an "Internet eXchange" where two or more segments of the 'backbone' interconnect and eXchange traffic. Palo Alto has been a major IX (PAIX = Palo Alto Internet eXchange) since the early days of the Internet. Sluggish inter-regional Internet performance is sometimes attributable to IX problems, or maintenance upgrades.

Was listening to Lynne Cullen and switched over to Jay Marvin because it kept cutting out, but only listened for about 10 minutes before having to leave for a bit. Just got back and getting ready to give it another shot with Hartmann. We'll see...

I was actually going to post the same thing. I live in Ontario Canada. This is annoying. We have a T1 connection here at work - so it must be something else???
