So, Is The LW Basically "Done" With Cindy Sheehan? |
|
I don't mean that in a mean-spirited way, but it's quite obvious that a LOT of bigger RW fish are currently frying than was the case back in August. It seems like people have really lost interest in her cause.
Oh, sure, the occasional thread gets started at DU, but it seems like the left has moved on to more-germaine fare - as in, we're finally getting to the HEART of what's wrong with buscho. Cindy's plight was always a *symptom* of what was wrong with bushco, not a core issue.
Your thoughts?

1. I think Cindy was sort of the battery that started this movement... |
|
She made a mess of a what was to be a dull summer for Bush on the ranch. It snowballed from there.

2. she has just been a little low key lately. |
|
if she sets up camp somewhere again, there will be support. when she speaks, people will still listen and sympathize.

4. Why would you think that? That seems sort of strange. There's just a |
|
whole lot going on right now that is important too. Oddly enough I saw something on here today where's she's supposed to be back in Crawford protesting over Thanksgiving. Don't know if it's true or not, but if she does I'm sure she'll be getting her share of attention.

5. the media have other things to cover now |
|
remember that the reason she got the attention was that it was August, a slow news month, and the reporters were at the ranch anyway. BTW, Cindy's going to be back in Crawford for Thanksgiving. Might be interesting to see how many folks are there with her.

6. I think Cindy deserves the credit for being the catalyst |
|
She was the driving force that made people start taking a look at the human cost of the war which in essence paved the way. She is a hero although your implication that she is "left wing" is a little presumptious. Her battle was non-partisan. Her detractors were not.

7. I still feel she can put the heat on at any moment |
|
She is like the Rosa Parks of the Iraq War.
She said outside that gate in Crawford until she got the country and the world behind her cause.
The Republicans pretended they were not concerned about her but they sure are starting to march to her drum real fast.

Cindy's plight is at the core of what's going on now.
If manipulated intel is proven, it pretty much confirms that (sadly) there was no noble cause or reason for being in Iraq.
She did well to drawing attention during Bush's vacation, but now so much other crap is happening, and on far higher levels, that she has taken a backseat.

9. Cindy is one voice in the antiwar movement ... |
|
A voice that gained a great deal of traction for a few news cycles, but just one voice nevertheless.
I disagree that people have really lost interest in her cause. Her cause is ending the war in Iraq, right? I think you'll find that liberals are just as interested in that as ever, even if they're not as interested in one particular personality of the movement. I'd like to think that, unlike conservatives, we're interested in the actual ideas and policies, not the personalities that push them. I'd like to believe that the cult of personality is a mostly right-wing phenomenon -- for every Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez or Cindy Sheehan, there's a dozen Pat Robertsons, Adolf Hitlers and George Bushes.
But maybe I'm wrong.
Note: No, I am not comparing Chavez to Castro, or Bush to Hitler. I'm just thinking of cults of personality on either side of the political spectrum. So please consider that before you post "Why do you HATE CHAVEZ?!!111!!!" Thank you.

11. i thought lw was fine support for cindy last aug. |
|
she wouldnt have been heard nearly as loud without the left wing support.
i think it was mutual. i think the left wing praised and thanked cindy beyond, for what she does.
but cindy, was never the left wing, we became one with her.
i think she has to an extent walked away from the left wing, but i dont think we will ever walk away from cindy
this is her journey, i appreciate and respect her as she waks her journey

13. I think that despite the fact that she's getting a lot less press |
|
attention these days, Cindy Sheehan was really the catalyst for everything we've seen since the summer. Her protest in Crawford was the first in a series of events which have led to Bush's precipitous drop in popularity, which is now starting to drag on the entire Republican party. She shone her spotlight on Bush and demanded accountability for the Iraq war at a time when the media was supposed to show him clearing brush and riding his bike.
It was only when he continually refused to meet with Cindy that the general public began to see Bush as aloof and disconnected, instead of "likeable" and "a man of the people." And it was that image that people took with them into his handling of Hurricane Katrina.
Clearly many things have happened since Cindy's protest in Crawford and now that the public at large sees the Iraq war as a bad thing, it's understandable that the media is not focusing on a single individual. She should keep on doing what she's doing, but I think that a repeat performance of last year's Crawford protest next summer would be really striking (presumably Bush will still be president and the Iraq war will still be going on at that point). I bet it would be huge.

14. I don't see the total support for Cindy anymore either. |
|
The Hillary lovers are pissed at her for exposing Hillary as nothing more than warmongering rethug in dem clothing. Also, Cindy has also spoken out about the Israel/Palestine conflict and the U.S. role in it which the Pro-Israel people are annoyed about.
IMNSHO, Cindy is spot on! We need to end the war in Iraq immediately, expose the frauds and liars in Washington for what they really are, forget about supporting any other countries political agenda and most importantly look after this country and it's people FIRST and FOREMOST!
And yeah, I know my answer isn't P.C. enough for most of the folks around here but we need to start getting real by expecting and demanding more of our elected officials-who work for us, don't forget! :grr:
