Training of Iraqi troop timetable?

We are hearing in the House how we need to win the war on terrorism and make sure there is democracy in Iraq. They also say when the Iraqi troops are able to defend their country we will leave.

My question is, how long does it take to get a U.S. soldier trained for battle? About 6 months? Why does it take so long to train Iraqis? No one on capitol hill can answer or will answer that question.
