It is pointless for us to try to stabilize the middle east
Edited on Sat Nov-19-05 05:33 AM by mopaul
just my opinion. how can there EVER be peace and love in the middle east as long as god keeps playing his little games of who loves me the most. shiites and sunnis, israelis and palestinians fighting over the same moldy holy sites, for thousands of years with no sign of letting up.

leave iraq, leave the middle east, we don't need their oil, let them all blow each other to kingdom come for all i care. stop being imperialists like ancient rome and let people live their own lives.

then maybe folks won't want to blow us up all the time.

1. I really do think we help the terrorist just being over their.
We may as well bring the posters from here for them to use to sign up people. Just think how we would feel if the Middle East people came here to set us right. And which God is right? Give us all a brake on that one.

2. There is one way you
could help fix the mess after you leave. Put pressure on Israel, via threats to reduce US aid, and force them to negotiate properly about the future of Israel/Palestine.

Also, in passing, the differences between people that you mention are more a function of imperialism than part of normal human relations - divide and rule etc. It's not about religion - it's about wealth and power, just like everything else.

3. i see it as a soup of religion, power plays, ancient slights, etc.
not just religion, but it's in the mix. it's brutal over there, and it's difficult for we the drowned in luxury to understand
