If I were a Republican, I would hope that Cheney resigns soon
Edited on Sun Nov-20-05 08:12 AM by leveymg
The White House legal strategy of protecting Cheney is going to kill the GOP, and they know it.

It is now obvious the Administration is doing everything it can to protect Cheney. They are laying down one person at a time in front of the Fitz bulldozer, taking obstruction and/or perjury charges, to drag out the investigative process as long as they can.

This is a death of a thousand cuts for Republican Congressmen facing election next November.

If it is Hadley this time, he is playing the same game as Libby -- falling on his sword for Cheney. There will be more perjury and obstruction charges, and now everyone will have to admit that there really is a conspiracy.

The prosecution machine will devour the WHIG one at a time. The Administration can only stretch this game of attrition so far. And they will keep doing this until there is no more to give until finally Rove, and then Cheney, have been indicted.

It looks like the White House wants to string this out, past the 2006 election, if need be. But, that strategy will kill the GOP, and they all know it.

So, no. I expect that another solution has already been arrived at. Before the year is over, Cheney will have left office (for health reasons), and McCain will be appointed as Veep. Then, shortly thereafter, Dubya calls it quits. Acting President McCain pretends to sweep the whole thing clean, and pulls us out of Iraq during the summer. Hero status, in time for the 2006 elections.

That's what I would hope for, if I were a Republican.

7. With the majority on our side, we don't *need* to steal elections. (n/t)

3. That would make sense for the Republicans
but not for the neocons.

Bush is more likely to try and pick a trusted neocon stooge like Condi as replacement VP; McCain is a bit too unpredictable and doesn't always follow the neocon line.

6. We will see who really runs Bush.
Is he a neocon captive or a Party hack? Where does his father stand? I tend to believe that Poppy will have the final say in this.
