Clinton Speech on C-Span: "I will go to My GRAVE Believing that I was |
|
Edited on Sun Nov-20-05 11:30 PM by KoKo01
Better President...." Or, that "I tried to do right by America?"
Did anyone hear his speech at Hofstra University? How did he end his speech? Did he say "I will go to MY GRAVE Believing I tried to do right by America?"
I only caught the end of it...and my brain just couldn't compute his actual words after.."I will go to MY Grave." It send chills down my spine...but I just couldn't get the rest of the sentence.
 He should have done better...Bill Clinton...he let us down...and I didn't see it until the Supremes gave Bush the election....but I know that Bush II would never say anything that would send chills down my spine...the most I get from him is REVULSION in my gut.
Clinton's speech must have been good. The Hofstra students gave him huge applause...I just didn't catch it until the last.

I consider him the savior of America and of everything liberal this nation has ever done. It would have been nice if he could have had a liberal Congress and achieved great things, but his role was different. It was stopping the conservative tidal wave that had been pushing us right since 1980. We were more conservative in 92 than we are now, and if it hadn't been for Clinton, we would be so far to the right that Bush would run as a liberal.

in the WH now. And, I defended him to the extent of losing friends over my defense. I don't mean this to start a flame war. I just wondered if anyone knew how he finished the sentence.
I'll watch the link papau gave. He was always good to listen to.

Well said, I feel the same way you do.
And don't forget, Clinton was the first (and only) president ever to attempt to fix the health care fiasco that has become so much worse the last 5 years. Even in the "good times" he knew that the health care system was headed for disaster and would only get worse, and he risked a lot to attempt to change things for the better.
I seem to recall during the debates between Bush and Kerry, when the issue of lack of medical insurance was brought up, Bush promised to open "health care centers" in and around urban areas for affordable health care for poor people without insurance. Of course this was all lies, as nothing has happened except the poor are poorer and are less able now to obtain any kind of health care at all. What a disaster Bush has been for our country. I want Clinton back!!

earlier if they could have. Poppy's boys would have done what we are living with now...even though everyone says now that he wouldn't have done what his evil spawn did....He would have. Had the same cast of characters in his administration and was a nasty SOB on his own.
So...I give Clinton credit for making it into the WH for two terms. We haven't had a Dem do it since FDR. Monica was probably planted...I wish he hadn't take the bait. :-(

I was watching the interview with Kay Griggs and she too highly believes that Monica Lewinsky was a plant by the rightwing and neocons. I wouldn't doubt it. How did they get that audio tape?

Why wouldn't she have told the prosecuters what they wanted to hear. Instead, everything she said was a boost to Clinton. That doesn't make much sense to me..
And the tapes were made because her good friend, gosh I can't even remember her name now, hated Clinton, knew of the affair and taped it to try and ruin him. Ah, everyone should have such friends.

14. He didn't "let me down" at all. Life was better when Clinton was president |
|
Let's see how life was for me during Clinton's presidency (this is the short list):
1. I had a home 2. I had a car 3. I had a job 4. I had a scholarship 5. I had health insurance 6. I was able to travel abroad 7. I had nice clothes 8. I didn't fear attacks from terrorists 9. I had hope for the future 10. I was FREE
Now, this is what life is like under Bush:
1. I lost my home 2. I lost my car 3. I lost my job 4. I lost my scholastic funding 5. I have no health insurance 6. I cannot travel abroad 7. I have very few clothes left (except for old donations) 8. I fear attack from terrorists and and unhealthy environment 9. I have little hope for the future 10. I feel that I am no longer free due to poverty, student loans, and the distruction of my city.
Life was better when Clinton was president.

21. It does make one wonder why our Dems haven't turned Reagan's words |
|
around against the GOP - LONG BEFORE NOW, even.
"Are you better off now than you were four years ago (or in this case, five years)?"
I don't think anyone but a handful at the top of the corporate pyramid would be able to answer "yes." No one I know could give such a response. EVERYBODY I know is hurting in some way, or someone they care about is hurting - as they never did while Clinton was in the White House. I even had a longtime ardent Republican admit to me, awhile ago, that business was a LOT better during the Clinton years, and that he was doing better. Probably still voted for schmucko idiot, but I bet he's sorry now.
I remember the joke that was going around - people really WERE joking about it then - when Selection 2000 happened: "Our long national nightmare of peace and prosperity is over." Joke's on us now, isn't it?
I feel bad for you, Swamp Rat. We are ALL the poorer for it, no matter what part of the country or what our overall circumstances. There's a world of hurt out there, and it's been on bush's watch.
WE MUST NEVER LET THE rEPUBLI-CONS FORGET THAT.

27. I know exactly what you mean....when Clinton was our last legally......... |
|
...elected president, we had the following:
1. No debt whatsoever; 2. A technical recruiting business that was doing well; 3. The ability to travel anywhere in the country.
Since December 2000:
1. After the take-over by the NeoCons in December 2000, my recruiting business began to go downhill...after 911, it was on a death slide (which I did not at that time understand)...I closed the doors on the business in December 2003; 2. Will finalize our Chapter 7 to eliminate our unsecured debt next month; 3. In order to keep the house we had to take on additional secured debt; 4. I was laid off from my last job, one that I had really wanted (last hired-first fired); 5. My wife has been working like a dog in a Day Care facility for low pay since mid-2003...since closing my business, I have tried insurance and furniture sales neither of which were a good fit.
So, I'll be 55 next year with two children in grade school and a wife who is getting increasingly weary of the whole scene. Oh, yeah...we don't have health insurance, either.
You're not alone Swamp Rat...we're part of the tens of millions that have been laid low by the NeoCon Junta, and that number is growing daily.
