Why have we not heard of any captured American Soldiers?
Edited on Sat Dec-03-05 07:35 AM by Roxy66
I find it curious we havent heard of any American Soldiers captured in Iraq. I could see how our media and gov't may cover that up, but there has not even been anything via the web. I hope and pray this does not happen, but with all the pro-torure crap by the Repugs....it scares me.

1. capture by IEDs is pretty much impossible.
We have fast responses, (helicopters, ground attack jets, and large infantry vehicles and tanks)
We have superior numbers (if we need to go in by force)
We have drone planes spying on various regions at all times.
We have infrared and other devices that allow us to see in the dark and through smoke and fog.

They have nothing comparable.
They are still winning.

Why? you might wonder? For one simple reason. If the Zimbabweans launched an invasion of your town, with superior tanks, weapons and communications, would you not fight tooth and nail, to the death, to rid your town of them? That is what they are doing.

Being able to take prisoners means you have a fixed base, superior numbers, a way of capturing troops without damaging your own.
It is not that kind of war.

It horrifies me to think of what kind of torture they would be subject to.....on C-Span the Repugs are beating a huge drum for torture

3. That's my fear too
That by their ranting about pro-torture makes all the loons hot for torturing the first American they can lay hands on.

Miraculous, isn't it? It's almost as if they have God on their side, helping them to rid their country of interlopers (us).

Forget that three fishes and five loaves stuff, this his hugh! All that mighty fighting power and the little guy is still winning.

6. Why didn't we learn that lesson in Vietnam? Oh, that's right....
...none of our chickenhawk NeoCon Junta served in the military, much less Vietnam.

7. That's bad and what's worse still
is that they refuse to listen to those who did serve and have vast experience in such things.

5. The military controls the flow of information into and out of Iraq....
...and the military still reports to Rummy. I doubt seriously that they would tell the American people anything.

Additionally, I don't think the insurgency is interested in taking American prisoners. I believe they are more interested in killing and wounding as many U. S. troops as possible.

12. I agree, the insurgency isn't looking at capturing
troops. They are only seeking casualties. If they do, you can be assured they will most likely be tortured though given our behaviour towards prisoners. The proof the administration doesn't really care about our personnel is this new torture policy of the administration.

13. but the military doesn't control the iraqis
and the iraqis have cellphones, cameras, access to the internet and millions of opportunites to use them, yet not one single live soldier (they seem to catch a hapless 'peace' activist every now/then- btw 'peace' activists who know if they tried that 'work for peace' shit in Bushington, DC they'd disappear w/out a word, unlike in iraq)
there's more then a few things the defy even basic common sense. For example, knowing he was toast, why didn't saddam pull trick on bush by inviting China, Russia, UN or even the kkk to monitor free election yada yada on eve of bush's occupation? Or why didn't his people say he fled to russia? Why didn't yasir arafat, knowing he dying, just walk up to israeli DF post and explode a grenade? No one on earth believe Israel never killed the dupe...why in hell did algore select a bushpig like lieberman as his running mate? how on earth is arlen spector still alive; the guy was lying about the jfk crime a hundred years ago!

10. Well, we may have a captured soldier - that poor guy Maupin.
If he's still alive he probably wishes he was dead.

11. Do Contractors Count???
Here's one who vanished in April and checking Wikipedia, he's still missing:

April 13, 2005

Indiana man held hostageAl-Jazeera TV has released video of an American, 47 year old Jeffrey Ake of LaPorte, Indiana, in the custody of three machine-gun wielding masked men.

A US Embassy official said the video did not have an audio track, but Al-Jazeera reports the man is asking that American troops be removed from Iraq so that he may live.

Ake is posed behind a wooden desk holding what appears to be his passport and a photo ID. His family had no comments on the situation, nor did those at Ake’s business. He is the president and founder of Equipment Express of Rolling Prairie, Indiana, a industrial assembly plant for water bottling equipment.

White House press secretary Scott McClellan said that no negotiations with the kidnappers will take place.

Ake is one of at least 200 foreigners who been kidnapped or have gone missing in the past year in Iraq. At least 30 have been killed.
