What is the solution to the problem???
Where are all the people who protested the viet nam war???Thousands marched in every city and tried to get the troops home. They came home alright, some poisoned with agent orange, many in wheel chairs, and we now have the VA hospitals full of these guys who were not taught to kill when they were growing up,most of them just kids and they were exposed to hell on earth watching women and children throwing grenades at them and the memories of women lying in the road dead, even some with babies who were nursing on their dead mother. The rescue helicopters were sent in to pick up the wounded and half of them were dead staring out of blank eyes. How can we allow such cruelty
happen in a time when we are supposed to no longer be barbarians???
If you remember the guys that came home and had flash backs and became violent and were put on heavy duty meds and then when that didnt work they would drink all day and have nightmares all night.2 of
my brother-in-laws drank them selves to death in their 40's.One was in special ops and did 2 tours in nam.
Was that all in vain???Have we learned nothing from this???
What happens when half the troops come back home so mentally screwed up that they will need treatment at our Va's that are full now??With part of the bases closing and the hospitals where will they go??
I feel so helpless and wish someone would find a solution to ending
this war.
My son died 2 yrs ago because of negligence from the VA.He had to have his foot cut off and 6 more surguries because they wouldnt see him when he had pneumonia and developed blood clots in his leg and had a 7 hour surgury to save his life that was done at a local hospital because they said he wouldnt live thru the night if it wasnt taken care of then.Rigamourtis has set in and his foot was black and dead. Now we are going thru the same nightmare with our troops, even if the body heals they will have emotional scars all their lives.
Something has to stop this insanity. We have lost so many of our young people for nothing. There was no reason to attack Iraq, they were never a threat to us.
What can we do to stop this insane administration????If anyone has any ideas please share them.

1. bottom line
Its hard to protest an administration when a media outlet as powerful as Fox News can spin whatever you do in an unfavorable way. Look what happened to Cindy Sheehan, or Michael Moore.

The best thing to do, at the moment, is to let the war go to hell. There isn't enough public support behind a pullout right now anyway. If we are there 10 years+, like we were in Vietnam, there will definitely be enough people protesting then to force the government's hand.

Unfortunately, it seems we haven't learned anything from Vietnam. At least this administration hasn't. But those who voted for GWB are to blame, they should have seen this coming.

Bottom line: there isn't much we can do. We are overmatched, and the vast majority is has bought into the lies.

2. Was this from an article, or your own experience?
If it was your own loss, my deepest sympathy.

There are things you can do locally to bring awareness to others. DU has an Activist Forum here:

My current favorite is this:

"Woman buys little green Army soldiers and writes "bring me home" on them.. Just got this in my e-mail - what a great anti-war action!

I heard on NPR last night -

Short mention of a woman who buys the little green Army men toy soldiers and writes on them or puts a sticker on the bottom that says
"Bring Me Home"and then she leaves them in public places."

3. Dear az chela,
Welcome to DU. Is this your own son you are talking about? That is so terribly sad, and I am deeply sorry to hear about it. My sincere condolences. I hope that God brings healing to you over it.

Where did your son serve? Was his foot problem a war injury?

4. Yes this is a true story
NO the foot problem was caused because the Va here neglected to treat him for pneumonia and and told him he wasnt sick altho he was there at that time under their care.
