OK, where's my presents??
I just saw on CNN that the average American will spend $700 on Christmas and has 8 credit cards!!

In my family of four adults, we have ZERO credit cards. So that means someone out there has some plastic that should be OURS. And we want it.

I also can't wait till Christmas. There will be $2800 worth of gifts under our tree. I must be getting some kick ass presents because I have been REALLY good this year. :)
:woohoo:

2. 700 on xmas huh?
thats, a lot actually. This year, I believe...estimation used here, that my wife and I have used about 200 bucks for xmas presents, and we are done...:) I have a huge family, i'm the oldest of 12 children, and have two parents, two aunts, one uncle and one grandma still alive(which we have gotten gifts for), and on my wifes side there are her two parents, 7 cousins/nephews, and her brother...that makes ten on her side, 17 on my side that get gifts, plus four good friends of mine in Sacramento...28 total and 200 bucks satisified that...700 is a bunch to be spending, unless you are going for big ticket/name brand stuff or buying multiple gifts for everyone.

We only got two credit cards...a walmart card(with no discover yet) and a 300$ limit visa for emergencies, and i have only used that card once, for propane this past sept. I can't imagine having 8 credit cards....I do want another 2 credit cards, discover/mastercard, just in case...there are some places which only take one kind of credit card, and thats why i want the top three.

BTW, I got a bunch of yard work and wood chopping for your xmas present, so you better get to work!...:)

4. For most of the years our kids were little,
we spent $100 on each of them for Christmas. And I had to start saving money in June or I wouldn't have had that Christmas money by December. Many of those years, hubby and I didn't buy anything for each other but just some little something to put under the tree.

I can't even imagine 8 credit cards. Do folks carry all of them in your wallet? Man that would take a mighty large wallet.

Last year, I called around about refinancing our house. One of the lenders I talked to told me that at least weekly she talked to someone who had $100,000 in credit card debt!! I am still stunned by that. I don't owe that much on my HOUSE.

We got rid of all our credit cards 20+ years ago. To this day, the money I spent on credit card payments goes in to a savings account. When I want a big ticket item, I take the money out of savings. If the money isn't there, I can't buy it. Works well. The only credit I want is for buying cars and houses. The really nice thing about no credit cards is when I get paid, I actually have money a week later. I certainly don't miss spending my whole paycheck to pay bills.

BTW, I don't do yard work. I'll send my kid over. :)

9. okay, send your kid!...:)
Thats the main reason why I want a kid of my own!...:) Just kidding!

My wife and I usually just buy little things for one another, but I usually get her a little more, I like catching her off guard, but I don't go off the deep end...:)

100,000 on credit card debt? I would have a heart attack...seriously
And thats more than what we owe on our house also...man.

The main reason why I got credit cards was so I didn't have to keep borrowing money from the bank(hassle) or money from parents all the time. With the credit card, if im' short on gas money or food, i know i can charge it and pay for it next payday, instead of humbling myself(again) in front of my inlaws or my parents for some $. I don't use the credit card to go out and buy buy buy, I use it to save my ass, cause life does throw you curve balls...like: Tires blow out, water pump needs to be fixed..leaky sink...etc, the list goes on, the credit card helps me kind of keep a lid on the crap life throws back at me...but I fear, people who use credit cards the way I do are a limited species, or maybe not...:)

14. I didn't use them that way
Maybe I am just not financially responsible. But mine were charged up to the limit in a matter of months. Smartest thing I ever did was to cut them all up.

7. We have 4 children...
and I would guess that we do spend $100 on each of them at Christmas....my dh and I also exchange gifts, and I spent $119 on his this year.

With stocking stuffers, etc...I'd say that figure is about right for our family. :wow:

I am a pretty big bargain shopper and I buy gifts for extended family (my parents, his parents, friends etc) during after Christmas sales in FEB and March....You can get fabulous bargains doing it that way.

We still spend waaaaay too much on Christmas, but I don't really mind. I know there are a lot of anti-holiday people on here lately, but I love this time of year.

We pay cash for things though...credit card companies are evil.

12. That's a lie floated out there in order to normalize insane consumption...
Even more so than the banal content, that type of consumerist propaganda is the reason that I don't watch television. Every time I see the infotainment shills come on the screen with their "But, Of Course" mantra I want to do them great violence.
