Western governors rip public land giveaway |
|
www.wilderness-sportsman.com
"Washington - The governors of Wyoming, New Mexico, Arizona and three other Western states said Friday that they oppose a proposed congressional change in federal mining law that could allow the widespread sale of public lands.
"Here in the West, and certainly in Wyoming, private lands that had historically been accessible by the average outdoorsman are becoming increasingly closed to public access," Wyoming Gov. Dave Freudenthal wrote to leaders of the Senate Budget Committee.
"It follows that public lands have over the years become essential to these folks, but there are provisions in this bill that could see those lands lost to the public as they pass into private ownership," the letter added. "
