1. This thing reminded me of Jimmy Carter's ennui speech
I think you're right. I think King George has finally caught on and is trying to get some sympathy in advance for his "honest intentions."

Just like LBJ, he got us into the wrong war at the wrong time against the wrong enemy and our people (and a hell of a lot more than 30,000 IRaqis) paid the price.

Bush better hope his place in history is not as the first US president tried at the Hague.

4. Let's be honest
LBJ didn't get us into Vietnam, he just made it LOTS worse.

The first US president to get us into that mess was Truman who violated our neutrality by letting the French use US-made nose spinners on their aircraft.

Eisenhower sent in the first advisors
Kennedy sent in more and then ordered their withdrawal but died before that plan went into effect
Johnson cancelled the Kennedy withdrawal and escallated
Nixon escallated more than did "Vietnamization" and declared victory (despite it being a lie)

Just being fair here.

27. Ah, but the Iraq war is W's war...
and W's only. There should be NO diffusion of responsibility here... although the RW has and will continue to blame it on Clinton, and they certainly will when it is blindingly obvious that the thing is going down the tubes. You watch, the failure will be Clinton's and/or the Democrats' fault. :puke:

2. That speech reminded me so much of the ones Nixon gave
...toward the end of his presidency. "It's OK because I did it to protect you from the evil communists terrorists."

22. You're onto something there.
Many of Bush's speeches sound instantly familiar (to us graybeards, at least) if you just substitute "Communists" for "terrorists" throughout. It's the same old thing yet again.

This seems to be a strain of American politics that simply will not die out. Who would have thought, during the 90s, that we would have Nixon back again right afterward?

3. worse than losing the war. they have actually damaged our position
in the middle east.

i believe the purpose was oil and power and the positioning of the us in the middle east.

they have blown it on every account. they will never be able to hold iraq, the arab world hates us and the oil will end up going to go to others.

to achieve this debacle they have killed thousands of americans and tens of thousands or iraqis (minimum) and destroyed the american economy. they have become international war criminals and broken just about every law we supposedly espoused.

they have totally blown it.

5. And set the table for a pan-Islamic theocracy.
We've actually set back the cause of moderate secularism in the mid-East. Really, I doubt anyone coud have screwed things up as bad as these incompetents did. Ultimately, we'll get nothing out of the loss of blood, Treasury, and reputation that we've sustained. The Project for a New American Century won't last a decade.

6. Don't forget
That Iraq is so severely contaminated with "depleted" uranium, that birth defects and cancer will increase and agriculture will suffer for another 4.5 million years.........nice.

19. George Bush's head
I want Bush's head on a fucking platter. I want him to go into his office this morning, open his desk drawer, take out one of those nice pieces of stationery with "Office of the President" printed on it, and write all of these words:

"I resign the office of President of the United States effective at 12 noon, Monday, December 19, 2005.

I have notified Vice President Cheney and all of my cabinet officers. For the good of the nation, they have agreed to resign at the same time.

I make this decision of my own free will.

/s/George W. Bush"

That will never happen--he'll probably shut down the 2008 elections and disband the US Marshals Service so he can't be dislodged--but it's nice to think about.

11. Clinton didn't invade Iraq
bush* did

Clinton's actions in Iraq consisted of enforcing sanctions/no-fly zones

bush* invaded and is now trying to justify it by saying "we did the right thing for the wrong reasons...."

I guess Ford was kind of OK since he didn't do much. But the others! Wow, what a group of gumbies.

24. Bush invaded Iraq. Clinton didn't.
Edited on Mon Dec-19-05 08:45 AM by Bridget Burke
More than 2000 Americans have died there and many thousands of Iraqis. And there's no indication that the dying is anywhere near done.

The expenses of the Iraq war are a severe drain on our economy. There's no money left for education, the environment (which includes "tree hugger' projects like rebuilding the wetlands that would have protected NOLA) & health care. (How was the economy under Clinton?)

Our position in the World--especially the Middle East--has been severely damaged by Bush's Crusade. (What did other countries think of Clinton?)

And it's been a great excuse for quashing civil liberties here & torturing prisoners overseas. (Of course, 9/11 is another excuse--an attack that could have been prevented had Bush's people wanted to do so. Clinton & Gore thought terrorism was worth preventing.)

Deinitely, you are misguided or WHAT. (& it would be rude to explain WHAT.)

25. FACT: The ONLY intel operable in March2003 was the weapon inspectors on
the ground reporting back to the UN and to the WH for the two months prior to Bush's invasion.

ALL old intel was inoperable the moment that weapon inspectors went into Iraq and started reporting the FACTS ON THE GROUND there.

Got an answer for that?
