Arianna Huffington nails it: NY Times can no longer be trusted
Edited on Mon Dec-19-05 07:55 PM by Ugnmoose
Time to send a message loud and clear to the Times and other media. We will not tolerate your shill whoring for this cabal of criminals. The price to be paid is in their pocketbook. Hit them where it hurts and where their stockholders will start screaming for heads to roll and changes to be made. It is the only language they know and respect. Just do it! Vote with your feet.

(snip)
Even after the Miller fiasco, it’s clear that those in charge of the Times still haven’t figured out the fundamental nature of the crisis that has arisen between the paper and its readers. So let me spell it out for them:

The paper is in grave danger of losing its relevance because the public can no longer trust that the very first instinct of the Times when it comes across a piece of news is, “Is this something important for our readers to know?” instead of, “Who might we piss off if we publish this?”

The future of the Times hinges on its ability to convince its readers that its loyalty flows to the public and not to the powers-that-be.

1. Aaahh. now, I recognize my dismay about what used to be the best.
The NYT, under Boy Wander, has fallen off its throne and into ann abyss of its own making. Will the family make a move and retire Boy Wander? or watch their fortune disappear?

2. Most reality based people realized this years ago!
Arianna certainly deserves a tip o'the hat for again putting this on the table for discussion!

5. Here's a little secret.
The NYT was never in the corner of the liberals or average workers unless it suited thier immediate interest.

7. Gee, Arianna, who do you think pushed the Whitewater nonstory?
Edited on Mon Dec-19-05 08:05 PM by blm
You helped, as I recall.

Then the NYT worked against Gore, and then propped Bush up as a hero after 9-11, and then pushed Iraq war, then killed the story that Bush was wired during the debates, then kept it secret that BushInc outed a CIA agent, ignored voting machine fraud, etc........

NOW you think they can't be trusted?

Gary Webb knew they couldn't be trusted....now he's dead, partly thanks to NYT and their lies against him.

8. Question - within the past 6 mos or so it came out that some major
MSM publication had sat on some story "because they didn't want to influence the election". What story, and which paper or magazine, was this?

There have been so many outrages with the press and this administration that I can't keep 'em all straight. But that was one of the most outrageous (at least until now - for the NYT to sit on the spying-without-a-warrant story for >1 year is an abomination).

9. Dear NYT - What else did (do) you know
and when did you NOT report it - especially prior to November 2004?????

I am sick at heart that Bushco has so completely co-opted the mainstream press.

I am a retired teacher of American History at the high school level and have NEVER been so disheartened. And this is through both Vietnam and Watergate.

I keep thinking things cannot get any worse -- and then they do.

This latest shredding of our values, our "democratic" instiitutions and our constitution with the gleeful support of so many Americans is blasphemy to all I hold dear.

The juggernaut that has become the modern Republican party has become the enemy of us and the world.

I write letters, give money and protest to all around -- but hear 9/11, 9/11, 9/11 in response.
