In American Revolution, Howe called fighters "insurgents"
Started reading the book 1776 tonight.

Firhg off the bat.. p 7 "Howe, who had served in American during the Seven Years War-or the French and Indian War, as it was known in America-was convinced the 'insurgents' were few in number in comparision to those loyal to the crown."

General Howe replied: "You are much deceived, if you suppose there are not many loyal and peaceable subjects in that country. I may safely assert that the insurgents are very few in comparison to the whole people. . . . With respect to the few, who I am told desire to separate themselves from the mother country, I trust, when they find they are not supported in their frantic ideas by the more moderate which I have described, they will fear of punishment and subside to the laws."

1. One more shameless kick because I found this very interesting
that Britain called the US PATRIOTS "insurgents".
