What are the rules and protocol's
in forming alliances with churches? I rcieved invitations to speak at several churches. Are there any rules or regs against speaking at churches? I am still setting up my organization and I don't want to break any rules. Is there anyone in Washington state familiar with our rules or are there federal limitations. I mean if pat robertson can do it...isn't that covered under the first amendment?

2. Interesting....
and you're referring to election rules, no doubt. Let me be the first to advise, if you're running for secretary of state, you'd better know those rules or know where to look them up. But off the top of my head, I can really see no objection. You're not espousing a state religion by speaking at these places. There might be internal religious protocols, though, and those I wouldn't know about unless one of 'em's a Quaker Meeting - then I can help you.

Chapter 42.17 RCW
DISCLOSURE -- CAMPAIGN FINANCES -- LOBBYING -- RECORDS

Tons of different information there. My head is spinning.

Sure would be nice if this were nailed down somewhere in plain, clear english, but I guess that would take the fun out of this, eh?

County auditor might be able to help give clarity.

6. Good idea...
the Party should know all about that stuff. Someone there knows the rules inside out.

From my limited knowledge, I'd say there's no problem with you speaking to a church group, but there would be a problem if they endorsed you. Not your problem, but the church could lose its tax-free status for endorsing a candidate. Fundie churches do it all the time, but never seem to get caught. Wonder why...

Find out if there are any rules about actually speaking in the church, or if there has to be a "neutral zone" for the talk. I dunno, but it just seems a bit unseemly to be speaking from the pulpit.
