Oh no! Look out for sharks!
It looks like the WH's campaign to confiscate video and censor news stories from CNN and other media must be working. After a brief story about how some unfortunate coalition troops in a helicopter accidentaly and noncombatedly hit a birdstrike of wild rpg's, resulting in a few casualities; there was an amazing and horrifying story about a shark attack that resulted in *gasp* a womans arm being severed. It was truly an amazing piece of journalism, repleat with excited details of how experts estimated the sharks size based on the bite radius, an exciting story of how a heroic young hero saved the woman by applying a tourniquet (using his surf board leash! wow!), and how the young womans physical prowess probably saved her life!

This is incredible! I'll have to keep my eyes peeled to the evening news tonight! There must be extensive coverage! This is the most important news story that I can remember!

1. c'mon...
The press doesn't have to devote every column inch or every minute of airtime to attacking Bush.

Reporting on another story (and a shark attack on a world-class competitive surfer IS news) doesn't mean it's all a right-wing-orchestrated distraction.

For years I had the newspaper from the day after Nixon resigned. Even THAT paper covered other stories that day.

3. Actually
that bite just ended the career of a rising star in the surfing world. She was a 13 year old surfer about to go pro, if i remember correctly. Very sad, imho.

7. Actually, she was glad she lost her arm.
as crazy as this sounds, she told a friend she was glad it happened, because now she can tell the whole world about God.

4. Accidents happen all the time
but when a serious war event occurs, normally networks drop everything else to cover it.

Later they say, 'and in other news' and devote about 4 minutes to all of it.

There have however been a plethora of stories about Kobe, Peterson, sharks et al lately whenever a serious event takes place in the world.

Bread and circuses.

5. have you heard?
is lacy petersen still dead?

I have to know right now and I'll probably forget within fifteen minutes or so, so I'll need to be told again. Thankfully, the cable news networks will take care of me.

6. Kaua'i surfer's arm lost to 14-foot shark

HA'ENA, Kaua'i — The shark that took 13-year-old surfer Bethany Hamilton's left arm Friday morning was a massive animal, a tiger shark about 14 feet long and weighing probably a ton.

Bethany Hamilton was attacked at West Reef, part of the Tunnels reef off Ha'ena Beach Park on Kaua'i's north shore. A large shark was seen in the area yesterday, but it was gone by afternoon.

Jan Tenbruggencate • The Honolulu Advertiser
"There were a couple of real good tooth imprints in her board, and it was definitely a tiger shark. From the size of the bite, I would say it was 14 to 15 feet long," said Randy Honebrink, spokes-

man for the state Shark Task Force, who inspected the board yesterday morning. "The biggest tiger shark ever caught in Hawai'i is 16 feet," he said.
