Why don't Dem politicians attend burials of US dead from Iraq?
Edited on Mon Nov-03-03 12:15 AM by HereSince1628
I understand the motivation for the Bush administration to bury the press coverage of dead GIs but why don't Dem politicians attend services/burials to acknowledge the greatest sacrifice anyone can give for America????

Maybe your repr/sens are doing this. If so please let me know.

2. Which NEEDS an answer.
There is no excuse for a Democratic representative not to attend the funeral of a soldier from his/her constituency.

3. I think they are for those killed from their State....
or at least contacting the family with condolensces. On the other hand, their "commander in chief," doesn't even do that, apparently.

5. I remember way back at the beginning of Iraq war a family
had posted information about the funeral of their dead son/brother. One of the relatives said that the father had written to Bush to ask him to come to the funeral. He did not even respond, apparently, but his democratic congressman did show up.

4. Repukes took away their funding...or the media don't report that they do
Edited on Sun Nov-02-03 11:45 PM by fed2dneck
What I mean by this, is that when Bugboy DeLay took over officially, Repukes abused their majority power (not exactly news to us) by underfunding Democratic congresscritters' expense accounts. The Dem Congressmen simply can't afford to travel that often.

Either that, or the corporate Pravda deliberately lie by omitting the fact that Democrats do attend military funerals.

6. They will be accused of partisanship and exploiting the dead
Not like the Republicannibals, who would never do that. Just ask president Snort, as he lays the cornerstone of the 9/11 memorial.

8. So, would the DoD deny reps and sens names of dead

constituents?

I'd love to see that one in the Washington Post, NY Times, or LA Times.

While I can imagine Rove claiming the Dems were taking advantage, I can't imagine that sticking. How much more can you support the troops than to show up at their funeral? No need to make public comments, just show the families that Dems really do care.

The silent comparison to the Repukes would speak all that needs to be said.

9. Rove wouldn't be dumb enough to attack Dems for attending the
funerals of their constituents that died in the line of duty.

That would be VERY stupid on his part.

I bet the Dems are showing up just that the media is ignoring them.

10. In WIsconsin there have been several funerals in recent weeks
as far as I can tell no politicians attended or commented.

Other WIsconsin Duers might comment on this, but I think I'm correct.

11. Uhh, no.
The Republican slime machine would attack Democrats for attending military funerals. It would play very well among the freepers as they seem to think every death is the fault of the Democratic party.
