I Made A Convert! - She Won't Vote for Bush again
My neighbor (and friend) is a 62 year old woman who just told me yesterday that "she will vote for a Democrat next year (2004) for the first time in her life". She said she will NOT vote for Bush and that she can't stand the sight of him anymore.

I have been working on her for years, but especially since the stolen election. I malign Bush every chance that I get, e-mail articles to her, etc. etc.

This is huge to me - we can all do this if we try. She has voted
Republican for 40 years!

2. Well done!!! This is exactly what we need!
People like you will be the reason we win in '04. And we will win.

If Boosh starts losing longtime 'pug supporters then his chances will be :nuke: 'd

3. No to be the naysayer.....BUT....
These are the kind of people who will turn on a dime. All it will take is for one slight, minor thing either negative about whoever the dem nominee is, or something positive bush does that gets a lot of press or some imminent threat, and people like the one you mentioned and like many I know who have said the same thing, will be right back in that ballot box casting their vote for you know who.

There is just way too much that can happen between now and then.

7. I don't think someone who's voted R for 40 years is going to be...
...quite as wishy-washy as you suggest.

10. I hope not, but at this point nothing surprises me...
Especially when it comes to a scared, wishy washy public.

11. 90 million? Nahhhh!
The number of Republican votes is WAY FEWER than 90 million.
Wasn't it more like 45-50 million? And we only need to turn a very
few votes in a few critical states and the Shrub will be cut down.

9. Good Job!
Real old fashioned conservatives will begin leaving the GOP in droves, because shrub is not a conservative. As Guy James says, he is something else.

12. Making To Convert...Keeping The Convert
Now that you've worked this hard, don't let up...keep re-inforcing her change. Even better, give her the chance, whenever she wants, to tell you about it.

Whatever you do, stay with her...especially if it looks like she's getting "homesick" (and she will) or is getting a lot of flack from family. She's probably "in the closet". The ultimate hope is you can make her feel comfortable, along with her own discovery of the moral values that we stand for, to pass her new-found passion onto others.

Cheers!

13. Good Job Girlie!!!!!!
I have gotten to my Republican parents, might only not just vote Dem, but may change their party affiliation.

Can't get my husband to even register to vote, let alone listen to anything I say.

15. Keep focusing on the issues, heidiho.
Edited on Mon Nov-03-03 05:01 PM by CBHagman
Well done on influencing this voter. The main thing, however, is to stress the issues in the election. Bush's policies on deficits, foreign policy, etc., have made us all more vulnerable not less so. The media and much of Congress are in denial about this, but I think it's going to be painfully clear to the public eventually, sad to say. Let's hope they catch on sooner rather than later.

Also, we don't want people to confuse anyone's dislike of Bush, legitimate though it is, with dislike of his horrible policies.

Remember: Eisenhower warned against the military industrial complex!

In the meantime, :bounce:

16. All in favor of making Heidi the head of the DNC--raise your hands!!
See. How goddamn hard can it be. Why are they not doing basically what she did but on a national basis. SAid it a thousand times---start educating the people on what the Dems have done for the people over the years; what liberal really is and what the repukes don't do for the common people. We need educational ads that run the whole damn year during every numbnut football, baseball, basketball game and any other entertainment event. We never educate; we never explain.

17. I started...
a thread "Has the country ever been so divided" and another about a journalist, Mark Morford of the SF Chronicles hate mail. Most agreed that Vietnam was the benchmark, but when you read what these people write, if that's any indication how they think, it's more than a war. It's more like a hatred of religious or racist roots. Deep seated, not just disagreement of philosophy. I don't think anything can bring them away from Bush.
