Parker uses this device all the time. Her military friend in reality is Parker herself, of course.
But taking her at face value, maybe she should contact John Ashcroft about this psycho, who probably has the means and training to carry out his threat. Maybe he's even the Anthrax killer?
Threats against our candidates
Via Atrios, we read that conservative Republicans are crossing the line again when discussing our presidential candidates.
Townhall.com columnist Kathleen Parker wrote a column where she quoted a friend as saying our nine candidates "should all be lined up and shot." (Here's a screenshot of the original column, which has since been modified to say "slapped" instead of "shot" — presumably now misquoting her friend.)
What's important is to understand the strategy behind this kind of disgusting threat. What Parker and other Republicans are doing is trying to distract the American people from the real campaign going on, the one with nine candidates explaining what's wrong with the direction President Bush has taken our country and laying out what they would do to put us back on the right course.
Republicans read the polls, and they can see the writing on the wall. They know that the more Americans learn about President Bush's real record, and the more they hear our candidates laying out their visions, the more trouble Bush is in for 2004. So they try to distract Americans with hateful threats like Parker's and other rhetorical nonsense.
Don't let them. Remember that this campaign is about issues, and the issues are always on our side.
