Why I like Dick Gephardt
Ok, I know I'm one of Gep's few supporters, but I am really starting to like him more and more. I am really impressed with the passion he is running with, anyone who has seen the past few debates can attest to this, he has really upped this quotient.

This should not be underestimated. And on the bread and butter issues, Dick is right there with the best of them. He has the best health care plan on the table, for sure it is the most comprehensive, and he has a good energy plan as well called the "Apollo project".

I understand some don't like his war support, but you have to admit he has been consistent on this issue. And I think his record of fighting for everyday working men and women for over 20 years should not be dismissed.

Dick Gephardt, the most underrated candidate of 2004.

1. He's A-OK with me
Not my first choice, but a fine choice, anyway.

2. of all the candidates who voted for the Iraqi resolution
he is the one I like best. Domestically, he is pretty solid.

3. you're not one of his "few" supporters
he has a formidable base, and I'm sure he's the #2 or #3 guys for most of us here.

4. He's a chump.
If this dork ran against Bush it would be a disaster. He's Bush "lite" I've heard him talk and he puts me to sleep.

6. If ignorance were bliss...
Bush Lite? Surely you jest. Gephardt has fought tirelessly for working people and their families since he stepped into public service years and years ago. Bush and his right wing friends have worked to deny workers the wages, health benefits, workers rights and safety protections that Dick Gephardt has fought to put into law.
Calling him Bush lite is an awful lot like Bush Sr. calling Saddam "Adolph Hitler".

10. His end run around the Senate Dems and into the Rose Garden
kind of earns him a "Bush Lite" star. I'm sure Kerry was the least happy of all that Tricky Dick did this.

7. He's ok with me
If he wins, we'll just have to get tough and knock Bush out with unions, equal rights, health care, anti-nafta and anti-wto, and education. That ought to be hard.

8. I admit, he has suprised me this time.
Have always been less than enthusiastic about him, but told the Gephart folks in Iowa how impressed I have been w him in the debates and meant it.

The whole miserablefailure.com thing was wonderful.

I do not see him beating GWB though. But I would enjoy seeing him in the next cabinet.

9. Apollo Project
One of Campaign for America's Future's pet projects.... a think tank (EPI) idea. Good to see it has been picked up by Gephardt.

11. Gep carried water for liberal causes and labor for over 2 decades.
Those who see him as some one-dimensional figure to step on don't deserve to call themselves Democrats. I mean that. Gephardt doesn't deserve that venom directed at him.

15. He's our Bob Dole
Yesterday's candidate. A relic of the 1980's and 1990's. An old party hack with nothing in the way of new ideas. He would have been great against Bush...in 1988.

18. For some reason...
I just feel sorry for the guy...I mean, this is his second time (it is his second time right?) running to get the party's nomination and it's been a so-so lackluster campaign. I don't see it generating the same excitement outside of his base.

Plus, he was presiding as the House minority leader during a time when the party lost over 60 seats...He's taken' quite a bit of flack for that (rightly or wrongly), and has ended up losing the post...

Either way, he strikes me a genuinely decent guy (as do all of the dems running). If he gets the nomination, I'd vote for him in a sec.

19. 27 years....
....working for the working men and women of America. Not getting fat like Republicans do in Congress -- just working on behalf of workers because his dad had health care when he worked for the Teamsters and the family did better than any other time.

Twenty seven years.

He's earned my respect. He's smart, tough, and compassionate.
