Katherine Harris running for Graham's seat? Someone give me a puke bag. |
|
Edited on Mon Nov-03-03 11:02 PM by ringmastery
Representative Katherine Harris, the Republican who rose to prominence as Florida secretary of state in the presidential recount in 2000, had ruled out running for the Senate as long as Mr. Graham was in the race. But on Monday, she released a statement saying his exit had "created a blip on my radar screen," though she remained undecided.

SHE WOULD BE THE WORST PERSON TO PUT IN THE SENATE. SHE IS A POLARIZING FIGURE AND DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE IN THE SENATE.
I just don't want to see anymore things about 2000 election.

at getting the nomination I would figure. She's a hero to the repukes. The republican candidates currently are no-name state senate/house figures and McCollumn is a loser and damaged goods after his loss to Nelson in '00.
Ugh.

The infamous Kathy Harris 2000 Fla. felon purge list that was overwhelmingly inaccurate is still the working list. Got to http://www.gregpalast.com/ where you can learn this.

Harris's district is the most GOP district outside of the Cuban exile district.
She could win the general election in her district from now to doomsday. The primary is a different matter. She is a failure to her district and is just whoring herself into a cushy committee.
P.S. - Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! She is rumored to sleep around with almost any man in Congress to get stuff for her district. Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

...which I happen to live in. (Or close to that. Jan Schnieder IIRC had 43% against her, which was better than that guy that "beat" Reno and lost to Jethro...I shall never utter his name again...)
Funny thing about Sarasota? It's really fairly liberal. It has a strong Green Party, passed an ant-Patriot Act Resolution two weeks ago and has New College (A VERY Liberal State school that's one of the best undergrad institutions in the nation).
But it's also one of the richest places in America so money trumps integrity for the most part.

that would make it that much easier for the Dems to win. All the people she disenfranchised will mobilize support in their communities to do everything in their capability to prevent her from winning. We have the proof now that they cheated as well. Go for it Makeup Bag Harris! I double dare you!!

they couldn't win a fair election in 2000 or 2004. Way too many disenfranchised people in 2000 that won't let it happen again. I respect your opinion though.

I think Castor would do very well against Harris. She's much more moderate and has excellent education credentials.
Deutsch is seen as a partisian democrat from South Florida. If he gets the nomination, expect a nasty brutal race. He will not play well at all in Central and North Florida, where the Republican base is.

33. Castor and Deutsch... |
|
First of all, the repug field is a bunch of worthless losers. I think this does democrat by default, although we'll have to pour some cash into the seat...
Castor - She's not controversial but she also hasn't run in an election since 1990. In a state like Florida, most people were living out of state or not of voting age when she was last elected. If this were Nebraska, where 90% of voters today lived in the state for the last 10-20+ years, that'd be a different story...
Deutsch - Considering the repug field of losers (the GOP Senate bench in Florida is like the Cincinatti Bengals ), Deutsch is a relatively strong candidate. He's liberal but also has a great record of service and while liberal has a cool edge to it.
The weakest candidate is Alcee Hastings considering his 1989 impeachment as federal judge and his horrendous record at statewide campaigns... He's basically running for a career topper...

Nelson will be 64 in '06 and he's an active Senator who shows no signs of retiring.
The Democratic field looks weak enough that McCollom might actually win so she'd be shut out until 2012.
Think Jeb's phone rang already about what should she do?

24. The over the top attacks on Harris in 2000 made her a republican hero |
|
I never understood why the Gore campaign had to make all the attacks on her so personal. Other then giving SNL some mysogenistic skits about her personal appearance, all this did was give her 100 % name recognition and make her a genuine electoral power.
If she really does run for Graham's seat, I'd bet she wins. The flip side of this though is she is, even if unnecessarily, such a democratic boogeyman the party would inevitibly invest disproportionate funds in this race, leaving other contests inadequately unfunded.
Remember the 2002 Beat Jeb Bush campaign was given funds diverted from the New York race. Maculiffe fell into this same trap then as well. I'm getting deja vu feelings.
