Right now, the top Times' story is:
Iraqis Seek Justice, or Vengeance, for Victims of the Killing Fields
There's a little blurb under the headline:
Nothing seems to preoccupy Iraqis quite as much as the urge to settle accounts with the old government. This is just to let all faithful NYT readers know that what REALLY, REALLY ticks off Iraqis is not this recent unpleasantness with the US occupation. No, of course not. NOT the US bombing, not the shootings in the street, not the lack of electricity & water & working hospitals. Nope. What REALLY, REALLY bothers Iraqis is how mad they are at Saddam.
The article includes stuff like this:
Civil and criminal courts are trying to process individual lawsuits filed against Mr. Hussein and his coterie, while thousands more cases of political repression are being amassed by groups of survivors and political parties...
In fact, the desire for some sort of retribution has also fueled much of Iraq's exuberant new brand of social activism.Get it? This is to let us know that Iraq has an "exuberant new brand of social activism" now. Gosh, it must be almost like paradise there!!
We Americans can truly be proud of the wonderful new democracy we are building in Iraq. :puke::puke:
