They are dancing in the streets
In the past 36 hours I sense a new door has opened in Iraq, into a room of horrors. We have lost the battle for the hearts and minds of Iraq. Not that the current administration gave it much thought, with their reckless disregard to details like culture, language and history. But know things are going from bad to incredibly worse. I heard a CNN correspondent give a bleak report tonight. He was asked about the Pentagon's claim that the people live in terror of those that are attacking us. He replied the people are not afraid of the terrorists/resistence fighters. They are not afraid of us. And that is important, because we are the occupiers, the invaders, the infidel.

So today, we see pictures of kids throwing rocks at our tanks. And people dancing in the streets...at the sight of 16 American deaths.

1. but that's why we're there, to make them happy!
More of our soldiers die, more happiness for them!

Oh, and we're pouring 87 billion dollars in there as well.

Who thought this was a good idea?

3. The Iraqi people hate Israel. To think they'll like the U.S. is foolish.
If you allow yourself to be lead by a fool you'll both end up in a ditch. I am not surprised they dance in the streets at the deaths of our brave soldiers. It will get much worse and much more blatant. Those who danced in the streets should have been rounded up and ... I can't say that can I?

7. Right. What's next, "they hate us for our freedoms"?
I'm as saddened as anyone about the soldiers' deaths, but one should realize why the Iraqis are celebrating: their country was invaded, a tyrant removed (good), but at the cost of thousands of dead and dying civilians (bad), a cost which increase every day.

This whole thing is a gigantic clusterfuck. Troops need to be out, NOW.

8. So, what you are saying is that the US should start bulldozing towns
and blowing up the homes of people we kill for attacking our troops. That's a great and novel idea! This is the same failed strategy that has given Israel the quagmire called the West Bank and Gaza.

End the Occupation, and bring the troops home NOW!

4. CNN had some interesting reports tonight
I'm in a hotel in Burbank, more or less stuck with CNN (just switched to Letterman).

Saw a bit of Aaron Brown's show and there were some sobering reports from Iraq. The report from the Newsweek guy was especially troubling -- Brown asked him if it was true that the Iraqi people were more scared of the insurgents than the Americans, and that's why they were seen celebrating (huh?). The Newsweek guy turned pale and said "Well, that's what the Americans over here would like you to think, but..."

6. The view today will be the Bushie propaganda
ConservativeNewsNetwork is already doing their homage to Bushie. Carol Costello? yuk! Is she an airhead or what? Why cnn lets her speak without cue cards is beyond me.

If you try REAL hard, you can feel the Iraqi love, can't you? If you look REAL hard at the rocks they're throwing, they're FLOWERS, aren't they? The dancing in the streets? The Iraqi's are CELEBRATING!! Get with the program! They are THRILLED that we are there! Those bombs and rockets are actually warm greetings. WELCOME to our country! Thank You so much for destroying it! That's just the culture, the Iraqi way! They want the freedom that WE want to give them. Don't worry...Be Happy! They LOVE us! They LOVE our freedom!
<sarcasm off>

I saw the Aaron Brown report last night and the reporter looked "nervous" to me. He's probably scared to death that he's next in line for a bomb. If I were a journalist, I'd get the hell out of there. The only thing is, WE need them there so they can hopefully tell the world what the truth is... what's REALLY happening in Iraq. The administration sure as hell isn't going to.

We need a Peter Arnett back in Iraq.

What a damn mess the asshole hasn't gotten us into.
