Maybe we need to bring Geptheart (sic) back. Have the Repubs put something in Pelosi's water? Is she being blackmailed?

6. I agree...
That broad even voted for the Patriot Act. The only thing standing between me and hatred right now is her position on Taiwan.

11. I called on Monday about this. Thanks for the reminder for DUers to call!
I am pretty amazed that she would even be questioning this legislation. Another mind baffler. However, the more information we relay to friends and family, the more the word gets out. Send articles.

I just sent an article out to friends that Jim Hightower in October on electronic voting. Alot of people like Jim Hightower and respect him.

DUers need to call Pelosis office and their representatives and explain what they know to be the facts. Let them know this is NOT a bipartisan issue.

This is an issue that will effect everyones vote.

Hypothetically, electronic voting could allow a certain faction having ownership or controls over the results, to go with ONE candidate and no other candidates, that means any other Republicans or Democrats would have a chance in an election.

14. My e-mail just sent
Dear Ms Pelosi,
You are obviously not paying attention to the news on electronic voting machines. There are thousands of the "little people" in the trenches fighting daily to secure our right to an honest vote and you have not come out in favor of the Holt Bill. I am a life long Democrat and I find this so unexceptable that it is beyond belief. The party is in need of a change of leadership and that includes loser Terry McAuliffe. Please help us take back our country or get out of the way.

Am I pissed?????? Oh Yeah !!

:argh:

15. Mine was a bit more diplomatic...
Mrs. Pelosi,

I am writing you to urge you to support HR 2239, the Paper Trail Bill. As I am sure you are well aware, these voting machines offer no paper receipts for voters and are not only susceptible to hackers breaking in and changing data, but they are susceptible to a flawed program altogether that takes votes for any other candidate and gives them to Republicans. Considering that the makers of all of these voting machines are Republican donors that have even promised to deliver their states to the President it is understandable why people find these people less than objective and worry that their votes are not going to be counted correctly.

After the debacle in Florida in 2000 that robbed this country of it’s rightly elected President, all Democrats should be supporting this bill without haste.

Please support the bill and convince your colleagues to do the same. The future of this country is on the line here.

Sincerely,
Robert Poole, Jr.

20. Agree it's important bill! Needs work, though.
Check out what the good folks at http://www.verifiedvoting.org/ say. The bill is good, but still needs work, otherwise it's a band-aid. BTW: I posted Holt's bill on LBN the second I saw it proposed a few months back. Today, my letter to Pelosi asked her to pass a modified version of the bill, based on the expert recommendations of academics, rather than the builders of the machines. — Octafish

EXCERPT...

Under this provision, electronic voting would still continue fully exposed to fraud, abuse and undetectable errors. The first problem with this proposed legislation is that it cleverly avoids any form of voter verifiable mechanism unless there is a manual recount of the printed paper records. Second and more importantly, a printed paper record does not verify that the machine counted the vote correctly. An electronic voting machine can be accidentally or deliberately programmed to record the vote differently than what it prints on the paper. To have a VERIFIABLE paper record the following minimal steps must be taken:

Each paper record must have a ballot number that uniquely identifies it at the precinct;
Each precinct must publicly post summaries of all votes cast for each candidate by ballot number once the polls close;
Each precinct must allow time for citizens to match their ballot number with the ballot the summaries if they desire;
The publicly posted precinct summaries must be totaled to show the number of votes cast for each candidate;
The summary totals must correspond to the final totals reported by the precinct for each candidate;
This type of verifiable audit trail provides a direct link from each ballot to the final reported totals for each candidate without revealing the identify of any voter. It could even be implemented without a paper record since the ballot number could be displayed for the voter to record and match against the summary totals rather than printed with costly, high maintenance printers.

28. There was a website...
that tracked where your state rep. stood on this issue. Many seemed to suggest that they were waiting to hear from their constituents. Piss poor excuse I agree, but that is what they said. I did not bookmark, but we need that reposted and sent to friends. They need to "hear" from us loud and clear!
