Has a military hero ever lost a presidential election besides McGovern? |
|
I don't think so. Washington,Jackson,Tyler,Grant,Roosevelt,Einsenhour, Kennedy, Bush Sr. Burr? Point is that I think we greatly increase our odds of beating Bush with a military man. You can't ignore history.

5. I meant general election I don't think a General has ever lost. |
|
I just think we could win the south honorably by appealing to it's historic affinity toward the miltary.

4. History can't predict the unprecedented. |

Bush might lose in 2004. He might not. I'd say the question is, what are we going to do about it?

9. I guess I blew it on this one. Another reason Clinton was so impressive. |
|
I forgot about recent history. Another reason Clinton was truly a superstar, although Ross Perot and his charts helped the first time around.

lost to Zachary Taylor in 1850, if memory serves. For those who don't know, Scott was a military hero from the War of 1812 on. He and Taylor both fought in Mexico. And another general, Winfield Scott Hancock, lost to one of the Republicans after the Civil War. It wasn't Hayes-maybe Garfield. But Hancock was a fairly able Union general who could be called a hero.

11. Sure. General George B. McClellan lost to Abe Lincoln in 1864. |
|
It's arguable if you'd call him a "hero" - but at the time, he was widely regarded as such.
