Wait appears over for energy bill ‘Godot’
By Jonathan E. Kaplan
Speaker J. Dennis Hastert’s (R-Ill.) flurry of phone calls and meetings appeared to have succeeded yesterday in getting the energy bill conferees to settle their remaining differences, The Hill has learned.
House Energy and Commerce Chairman Billy Tauzin (R-La.) said Hastert “rode in a like a knight on a white horse and weighed in quite heavily” to work out differences over the tax provisions at issue in the bill.
Sources said they expected lawmakers to reach so-called gentlemen’s agreements on the remaining controversial tax provisions either late last night or today.

Sources told The Hill that if the House could file the bill with the clerk today, they could vote on the bill tomorrow. If they failed to reach an agreement today, senior aides said, the House would recess and return next Wednesday to take up the long-sought legislation.

This is
very important. As has been discussed on DU many times, the energy bill (HR 6), a total giveaway to corporate interests, would be a very bad thing if enacted. Write/Phone/E-Mail your Congressperson...tell them to vote NO on this bill!
