Are the vast majority of racists Republican?
I just thought about the people I know who I consider to be highly bigoted or racist and there isn't one who is a Democrat. Could it be that they find a home in the Repuklican Party because they don't want to be associated with a Party that is openly inclusive of minorities, or homosexuals?

that 100% of the racists are republicans you are living in fantasy land.

5. Hard to say
There are racists who are Dems too. But there are probably more that are GOP, just because the deep south where a lot of the old ingrained attitudes among some of the country folks is a lot more republican in general than Democrat.

6. No, there are plenty among Democrats, too...
Orientalism isn't the problem of a single party, nor is arrogance in regard to race.

Racism, however, is contrary to the basic point of liberalism; that being that all men and women, regardless of race or nationality or ethnicity or culture, are created equal, and we have a duty to preserve and promote that fairness and equality for everyone. That doesn't change the fact that there are racist liberals, though.

So stop the self-congratulation, sweeties.

25. It used not be. It's a shame that it has become so.
My wife was listening to Bob Dole the other day, and was
pleasantly surprised by the gentleman's knowledge, wit,
and humor.

I believe that Bob Dole represented what conservatives and
Republicans WERE. By comparison, Trent Lott represents
what they have become.

This is both a shame and a true loss for our country.

10. Yes, but there are racists on our side
Robert Byrd, who was a member of the KKK, and who made a racist comment two years ago. Jimmy Carter even said something racist about blacks and housing during the 1976 election(there's a thread somewhere on DU about that comment)...which explains why he was the last candidate to carry a solid South.

"Becoming involved with the Klan was the most eggregious mistake I have ever made...."

He also apologized for the "white nigger" remark, in no small part because the Party leaned on him.

The remark shows that Byrd may yet be bigotted and surely insensitive. The reaction to it by Dems shows that they don't want to be seen as the party of bigots and racists. Were Byrd truly a racist *politician* who wanted to use his position to advance the cause of white supremecy, wouldn't he have switched parties to the one that condones and encourages outspoken bigots?

20. I would not call their mothers "bitches"
while speaking of two faced. I doubt that I'm the only Democrat here that has family members who are good, decent and honest people who may happen to vote republican at times.

While one republican is screaming where their tax dollars go there is another Democrat doing the same. We are not a monolith.

13. Not at all
I have friends and family members on both sides of the aisle. The most vile and racist person I know is my wifes uncle. A former union president and big big big democrat. If you are not a white male, he hates you.

When I moved to NC one of my co-workers at my new job is an American Indian. I have remained friends with him since moving here and we play golf together. Though we don't work together anymore. He's a democrat, and upon welcoming me to NC he said, and I quote, "one of the big differences you will notice is that North Carolina niggers are trained." Obviously implying that the African Americans up north are savages roaming the streets causing problems.

And unfortunately, our party has a distinct history of racism, such as Fritz Hollings putting the confederate flag atop the state house in SC. Lucikly, and rightly the party has been able to overcome its past and get on the right path.

the question concerns THE VAST MAJORITY, not the views of your American Indian coworker. And the answer is HELL F***ING YES most of them are g.d. republicans.

STOP with the "OUR PARTY" B.S.

Edited on Wed Nov-05-03 10:15 PM by bluestateguy
I knew plenty of Jewish people in college who openly hated Arabs and Muslims--all Democrats and very liberal on the issues. The same could be said for many Jewish friends of my grandmother: many of them don't care for black people, but they have voted Democratic at least since Dukakais (there are a few ex-Reagan Democrats in my family). Even my uncle, a DLCish Democrat, has made remarks I consider to be insensitive about black people. He hates the Bushes. Finally, I have seen, occasionally on these boards, people on the hard Left who have an obvious hatred for Jews and Catholics. But yes, I think a racist is more likely to be Republican than Democrat.

31. Watch The Repuke National Convention Next Year & Compare It To Dem Convent
and you'll see who is the party of the people. The Repuke National Convention in 2000 said it all. On the floor, all rich white delegates. The only black people in the room were paraded on stage, nobody bought it. By contrast, the floor of the Dem. National Convention was a rainbow of color, representing the united states the way it should be.

I just thought about the people I know who I consider to be highly bigoted or racist and there isn't one who is a Democrat.

How about Louis Farrakhan? I don't know for sure that he's a Democrat but he sure as hell isn't a Republican.

New Black Panther Party Executive Director Malik Zulu Shabazz seems to have some problems with white people.

And there is always... Nah, let's not go there.
