People in the south vote for the candidate. Elections in the south are like a beauty contest. The candidate that looks the best on television and talks the best ususally wins (there are exceptions).

4. Haley Barbour must truly be an Adonis, then. |
|
Hmmm. Ever notice how simple answers to complex questions are seldom very useful?

6. Doesn't apply here in AR, apparently |

Governor Mike Huckabee is no beauty, and you probably wouldn't give any of our other state leaders a second look.
Having a famous father helps here; our junior Senator, Mark Pryor, is the son of former Senator (and governor) David Pryor.
The lieutenant governor, Win Rockefeller, is the son of a former governor (Winthrop Rockefeller), not to mention the cousin of a prominent Senator (Jay Rockefeller), the nephew of a well-known New York governor (Nelson Rockefeller), and of course, the great-grandson of the ol' oil baron John D. Rockefeller.
The "famous father" principle applied in the 2000 election as well; Arkansas went for George W. "My Daddy Was Pres'dent" Bush. The "Jenna Bush For President 2032" campaign is already beginning here, I believe.

Helps here in NC too. Got our former Agriculture Commissioner Meg Scott Phipps elected. Though she is now sitting in jail for 4 convictions on state charges for perjury and obstruction of justice. And is still facing 30 federal charges ranging from the above to bribery, wire fraud, and other extremely serious charges.
She is probably one of the most corrupt politicans in our states history. Unfortunatly she is a democrat and could cause us problems in a year.

8. What I'm trying to say is people in the south are more candidate |
|
oriented and people in the north are more issue oriented. People say that southern voters care about (gays, guns, god and abortion) Those are not political issues. Those are personal issues.

10. Definitely--the perception that a candidate is "a good person" |
|
who "shares your values" is gold here.
That's why I think we need to rip the bark off Bush where his alleged likeability and values are concerned.
