What happened to the Orange Alerts?
Has the Administration stopped reporting any potential terrorist threats in order to foster the idea that the war in Iraq made the US safer? I can't believe that terrorists have suddenly stopped plotting attacks against us.

Any opinions?

The war on Afghanistan and Iraq has made American soil less safe. See, we've tried killing brown people, it doesn't work, it just increases shit. We need to appease these bastards. I belive, personally, as long as we invade Muslim holy land for our interests... and support Israel, we will get attacked.

2. Orange Alerts
I think the Bush administratin stopped issuing in fear that americans will take for granted, if nothing happened.

Kind of like the shepard that cried wolf. Hear it so many times, nothing happens, it is useless.

3. Interesting that you mention it...
I was just thinking about it this morning, and wondering why the government hasn't posted an alert in awhile. Especially with all the recent bombings, and the warning that large cities could be targets of terrorist activity.

5. It's very hard to campaign on making the US safer
when there's a terror alert coming out every few weeks. That's why I believe they've stopped issuing the alerts. The Administration wants voters to think that the war in Iraq is making the US safer. "The terrorists have given up; they're no longer plotting against us. We've put the fear of God into them."

There is a drawback to this, however. The Orange Alerts help the Administration to cover its ass. If another attack occurred, they could say, "Well, we warned you." But if they aren't issuing the alerts, they could appear to be caught off-guard by an attack.

Then again, I never knew what to do when an orange alert was issued (other than stock up on the duct tape and plastic sheeting).

10. The alert system is a PR campaign, not actual warnings of anything
They don't need the alerts to make people afraid anymore. The escalating quagmire in Iraq and the flatlining economy are scary enough.

Besides the PR guy who used to put together the phony "security alert warnings" is busy fulltime covering up for Bush's lies, now that the media at least mention them for a day or two before sweeping them under the rug.

18. Republican state and local governments were ripping the administration
a new asshole for not helping to pay for the costs of going to a higher alert status. There were a lot of articles about this the last time the administration considered raising the alert level. There also was concern about Bush and Ridge being mocked to an unacceptable degree. So for economic and political reasons it was decided that the alert level should no longer be changed based on intelligence reports unless the evidence was overwhelming. Note that this standard does not apply to invading another sovereign nation.

19. Because Crayola retired that color, working on a new one for Chimpboy.
Just as soon as they can get a new box to Ridge and give him time to test it out in his new coloring book then we'll be back with more vibrant colors for useless warnings.
