Did CBS lie when they said they were not intimidated by opposition...
to their Reagan movie? They say they were not...it was just not up to their standards... Can they simply not look themselves in the mirror and face the truth? They copped out. They were afraid of losing sponsors and revenues. They lied, in my opinion.

1. Of course it's a lie.
Edited on Thu Nov-06-03 10:40 AM by The Backlash Cometh
It would have aired if the Republican censors had allowed it to pass.

That's IMHO.

On edit: Doesn't Halliburton run advertisements on CBS? How much was the pay-off?

4. It was obvious
they buckled under the pressure
In light of that, can we believe anything we see or hear on TV? I think not

3. LOL. A disgusting lie
But of course Imperial Amerika is BASED on a lie, so I would expect the frequency and "intensity" of other lies to match the Orwellianism we deal with every day.

5. Yep they lied.
There isn't another way to see it. They brodcast crap all the time, so even if it was crap that shouldn't have mattered.

I wonder why they lied, no one on either side buys it. It must make someone over there feel better,

6. They shot themselves in both feet.
The left is outraged that CBS allowed itself to be cowed by some right wing zealots. The right is outraged that CBS would bankroll a movie that shows their party's hero in a less than flatering light. As a result, they will probably lose viewers from both camps.

How smart was that?

7. CBS should be ashamed of their cowardice
they've set a precedent for caving to the republicans.

Reagan is not God.

8. Look at it this way
I don't know if they still want to send it over to Showtime, but basically what CBS said was, "This isn't good enough for the sterling schedule of quality programming here at CBS, so we're going to let Showtime have it." Not that Showtime is the measuring stick of quality tv either, but still! CBS is too good for something? Please!

10. I made a point last night that Showtime will never broadcast the movie.
I got my ass flamed off. Viacom moved the movie to Showtime to save face. They will never show it. The right wing will still boycott CBS (secondary boycott) because it is owned by the same company that owns Showtime. It was Viacom that caved, not CBS, in my opinion. Viacom is facing both economic pressure and political pressure at a time when broadcast TV is under assault from the cable channels.

9. lied big time
there was controversy over their previous mini-series, one on Jesus and one on Hitler. Neither of these were canceled. So why the Reagans? I'm disgusted that a particular interest group can get one of our major media networks to cancel what they consider to be dangerous programming. CBS's actions set a bad precedent for the free media in the United States; then again, maybe the actions of CBS will illustrate to Americans that there really is no free media in this country anymore.

15. Of COURSE CBS Lied
Especially after stating that they had verification for every "controversial" aspect of the series.

What they really mean is, "It's all true, but it's ugly."

What makes the whole thing so galling is the former HEIGHT from which CBS chose to fall!

:argh:
