"There is no way 'Clark' can lose"

How many of you have said:

There is no way Clark can lose.

There is no way Dean can lose.

There is no way Kerry can lose.

There is no way Edwards can lose.

Etc.

I raise this point because the other night during the Rock The Vote forum at a our Clark get together a number of people said that very thing about the General, and I immediately wondered how many other people who support any presidential candidate have said that exact same thing. I encourage all of you to do what you can to work hard, challenge and support your candidate and do what you can do to make sure he or she does not lose.

The next time you think your candidate has a perfect lock on the nomination take a moment to realize that there hundreds of thousands of people who feel that exact same way about someone else. I look forward to all of us on the DU reuniting in August 2004 (maybe sooner) and working to together to take back the White House.

And I'm also starting to worry about Clark. Let's all remember FL in 2002 when Dems got worried that Janet Reno would be too liberal to beat Jeb, so they picked what's-his-face. Anyway, he ran a lousy campaign, and didn't fire anyone up. He was crushed.

People are going for Clark mainly because they believe he has the best chance to beat Bush, but my concern is that he doesn't fire anyone up. So far, I see a lackluster campaign on his part, which doesn't bode well for the general election.

I am all for Clark, but I have never said "Clark can't lose", I say "Clark can beat Bush!". To tell you the truth, haven't seen anybody who has claimed that their candidate is unbeatable.

If the economy is in a real verifiable job gain boom, and Iraq is patched up with good progress and developments. Or if we suddenly capture Saddam or Bin Laden on the week before elections, or if we discover a horde of biochemical WMDs in Iraq the weekend before the polls -- Bush may win, no matter who the Dem nominee is.

But I'm pretty sure he gives us the best chance to win. No one without solid national security/foreign policy credentials stands a chance, which is why Kerry and Clark (if he improves his campaigning skills) are the only electable candidates of this bunch.

Gephardt may stand a chance because of his midwest positioning and wealth of experience, but he's not strong on foreign policy and he's going to raise taxes. The last guy to promise an increase in taxes "for the good of the country" lost 49 states.

And I'm sure of this : There's no way Dean can win, and it's pretty likely he would be beaten badly and take the party down with him.

Of all the major candidates - Kerry, Clark, Gephardt, Edwards, Lieberman - Dean stands the least chance of beating Bush.
