Dean = 'Park Avenue Liberal'? |
|
Never heard that one before. Saw that on another site.
Apart from the tax cutting and budget balancing and gun-neutral positions....anyone know where Dean was actually born?

His father is Dean Witter. He's Park Avenue. I don't have a problem with that. Roosevelts and Rockefellers and Kennedys are pretty wealthy, too.

Gov. Dean's father was a stockbroker, and the Dean family has no relation to Dean Whitter.

11. I read in Newsweek interview-- |
|
with Dean that his grandfather is the Dean in Dean Witter. His father was a stockbroker also. Dean's going into medicine made him the black sheep in the family. He hid it from his father when he first started med school. He is from the elite, but the elite can have principles. Class traitor anyone?
I think Dean may well have personal antagonism towards what Bush represents (the greedgreedgreed mantra of the elite) accentuated by the fact that they were both at Yale at the same time.

Somehow I don't really think you are interested in his background, but....
Boolean search -- it's easy... just google Howard Dean +bio*

5. He was born in New York |
|
and yes, lived in a Park Ave. apartment that his parents bought for $8000. Of course it's probably worth 8 million now.

8. Grew up mostly in the Hamptons, IIRC |
|
Folks had a small Park Ave apartment, but he spent most of his youth growing up in the Hamptons.
It's not a huge deal, IMHO, but your upbringing oftentimes affects how you view the rest of the world, whether you're liberal, conservative, communist, neo-nazi, or unitarian (like me). :D

Does it matter from where his liberalism (yes, I know he is a centrist, I am using the term in a subjective/relative manner in relationship to our current Republican Extremism) stems, just as long as it is there?
Is a Berkely liberal better than a Seattle liberal? A Hollywood liberal better than a Upper West Side liberal?
