CNN Crawl: Blackhawk down "no word on cause"
Uh huh. "No word?" Soldiers are reporting it was an RPG. Reuters is reporting that it was 'probably an RPG.' I guess there's 'no word' from their administration minders.

1. Heard an MSNBC reporter in Iraq describe it...
...as "it blew up into flames as it hit the ground after a hard landing". Yup.

2. 'Hard Landing' is a military euphamism for 'crash.'
A classic one, at that. Up there with friendly fire.

5. you can never trust what the military tells you the cause of death
is. I had many friends who died while we were in the military and no matter what the real cause was (including the murder of a gay Marine) it was always considered a "training accident".

7. I wish there was some way to investigate these deaths.
If boys are getting murdered by their own troops because they're viewed as different, I'd say that's one hell of a compelling reason to deal with building tolerance for race relations and sex-orientation issues here on the homeland.

8. It happens all the time in the military - or at least it used to back in
th '80's. Sometimes when military personnel are on a "spy mission" and are killed or die, it is listed as a training accident, too.

6. Here is the Cause...
They are in Iraq fighting a war......

It should make no difference what the actual cause is. They are dead because they are there.

9. AOHELL homepage has as probably RPG hit...
TIKRIT, Iraq (Nov. 7) - An Army helicopter crashed Friday into a riverbank near Saddam Hussein's hometown of Tikrit, killing six U.S. soldiers, the military said. It probably was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade, an officer said.

Two Americans also were killed in separate attacks Thursday and Friday in the northern city of Mosul, raising concerns that the insurgency was spreading north.

13. Apparently
It's a volume thing. Helicopters are not particularly fast. You wait till one is within range and fire.

Enough people do it, eventually one will hit.

The fact this is two makes me think a lot of RPGs are popping off.
