Micheal Moore's new book not selling well at Sam's Club
Was at Sam's Club today and saw that MM book "Dude, Where's my Country?" wasn't being snapped up as almost all of them were still on the shelf.

Al Franken's book looked like people were buying it and even O'Reilly's book had sold a few.

Just an observation.

1. According to Moore's website he's sold a million in three weeks.
I don't think he'll be that bothered.

3. From Moore's mailing list:
It took one year for "Stupid White Men" to sell a million copies in the United States. It took "Dude, Where's My Country?" just three weeks. That should give you some indication of the level of concern/frustration/anger in the country right now over what the Bush administration is up to.

I think Moore is right in his analysis... :D

2. Is it possible the stock had just been replenished?
Because it certainly is selling everywhere else as well as Stupid White Men sold last year. I've actually seen people reading it--many people--on the subway. You usually don't see people reading ANY hardcover books on the subway.

5. That's super - reading hardbacks on the subway!
But isn't Sam's like Wal-Mart?

4. In local bookstores here
it seems to me that the piles of Moore's book have been severely depleted. I also see the Franken and Krugman books being sold down an awful lot.
Now that I think about it, though, the Waldenbooks in the mall always seems to display the right wing books on top; the current lefty bestsellers are put on the shelf at the bottom, so you have to bend down to reach them, and they're not displayed on tables at all.
So I guess I should amend my statement above: in local *independent* bookstores, Moore, Franken, Krugman, and Conason seem to be going great guns.

7. Not surprising since Sam's Club is owned by Wal-mart
Wal-mart owns Sam's Club. They bought it from Fred Meyers.

Wal-mart are very big Repug contributors. Wal-mart, the Walton family and Walton family companies contributed more than $1 million to Repugs since 2000. At the same time, they contributed approx. $10,000 to Democrats.

8. Teehee. I've been waging my own little guerilla campaign
to increase online sales of Moore's and other left-wing books. If anyone is interested in helping, just PM me. It's easy and just takes a few minutes a week and it's totally ethical.

10. Well since Sams Club is part of the evil empire
Edited on Fri Nov-07-03 01:35 PM by Capn Sunshine
of Walton stores like Wal Mart, I'm not surprised.

Frankly before I would shop there I'd pay double for something.
But I'm one of the lucky ones; I HAVE a job and am not being forced into minimum wage non benefit Sams Club employment.

ps the "Sam" in Sams club is SAM WALTON.

11. Most of the folks working at my Sam Club are
either old retirees looking for a little extra cash or college students needing a part time job.

I agree they need to give benefits.
