I just need to rage for a second |
|
I was watching my local news the other day, and they had a poll about the San Diego fires. 92% of the people believe we should keep helicopters here in the county year round in case of fires. Cool, great, that’s wonderful; I don’t want to see people lose their homes, and lives any more than the next guy. My first problem with it, is that if this was polled before the fires, it would have been a much smaller amount of people. Why do people need a tragedy to happen before they think of ways to prevent the next one? There were plenty of people warning of the fire dangers. Second problem is a majority of these people voted for Arnold, I’m assuming, just because the majority of people in San Diego county voted for the f***. Sorry, I’m getting so pissed, while I’m writing. How do these people think they’ll get the money to keep helicopters here, if you can’t raise any taxes? I’ll stop now, no need to respond, I just needed to rage. Thanks for being here.

1. Actually there has been SO much govermental fraud in San Diego |
|
that if they REALLY looked at the issue of accountability with funding the stadium, the strip club fiasco and other Republican rip-offs, they probably WOULD have the funds.
This is. however, the Republican mind set. Give us services but we don't want to pay for them.
The FIRES have proven that the STATE plans and funds disasters MUCH better than local goverments do.

3. I totally agree with you. |

I am in San Diego County (clantee actually). I do not have a problem paying taxes to get services. Arnold said he wont raise taxes but he has no problem with a 32 billion dollar bond package that my gtrandkids will be paying for. Everyone says wall street wont fund it but he has already done the deal with Warren Buffet (remember the pre election photo ops). These dumbass repricks voted for this now we have to live with it.
Whew...................
much better now.

5. wildfires: ecology trumps political boundaries, again |
|
I grew up in the east county of San Diego, although I haven't lived there for many years. It's often hard for people who haven't lived in the chapparal to understand just how easily wildfires start and how fast they spread.
What I think the experience of the last couple of weeks shows (again) is that back-country wildfires can get very big, very fast. Once they get going, they can cross city-county, county-to-county, and even international borders literally within hours. This fact alone argues that back country fire- fighting services need to managed at a somewhat higher level than the Board of Supervisors. The state and federal govern- ments really *should* be dictating the minimum resources that the city and county governments have on hand.
If anything, the problem is worse than when I was a kid. When the Kitchen Creek fire (1971) broke out, the fire crews had a couple of days to organize their firebreaks and thus protect the urbanized east county. Now the urbanized east county stretches 30 miles further into the mountains, so when a fire starts ... neighborhoods are burning within a couple of hours.
