City Grieves for Fallen Daughter (front page)
A local young woman, the first killed from Wisconsin, was laid to rest yesterday. It merited a flag-draped coffin photo on the front page of our local paper.

“She wasn’t a person who was well known, but she was one of ours,” he said. “Today would have been her birthday. She was born and buried on the same day. She was just a kid.”

A soldier, he sat calmly at the counter. There were tears on his face.

“It shouldn’t have to be like this, but it is,” he said.

Like so many others, he wants the nation to finish its dangerous, deadly business in Iraq. “Let’s get out of there and bring our people home,” he said.

2. When I read about people like Ms. Bosveld
I get so angry that I just want to spit! I teach people in her age group, and am astounded that it doesn't occur to them that it is their generation that is fighting these faux wars, and for what? So, people like * can make a bunch of money and dress up to play warrior? I am just about ready to dig out my 60s paraphernalia and start marching again. May this child find the peace she sought- my tears go with her.
